    Default Feeling Tired on Met

Anyone else feeling tired while taking metformin? I'm a little concerned. I'm on day 6 of taking it, and around day 4 I started to feel fatigued. I have to really push myself to get thru the day and all I want to do is sleep. Any suggestions? Will it get better as my dosage goes up? Right now I'm only on 500mgs... planning on upping it to 1000 this friday.

I'm on day 9 on 1000mgs and yes I've been really fatigued! Today is the first day i havent felt zonked! But today i had coffee. and for a the first 7 days on the met. (w/spiro) i wanted to stay away from the coffee and drink more water. But yes for the first week I took naps and went to bed earlier (weekends i woke up later then usual). Last night i went to bed at 9:30p and work up at 4:45a. and i felt refreshed!
And the fatigue is one of the only symptoms i've had while on met. beside nausea!

Everytime I upped up my dosage I had to get used to it all over again. For me, the fatigue went away after a few weeks each time. Also, I started taking a daily vitamin to give me a little extra energy and it seems to help. I wish you the best and I hope the fatigue goes away.

Thanks for the responses... it's good to know that it will get better over time, and that it isn't uncommon. I'm taking a multi vitamin every day and trying to get out and walk, too, but man it's hard right now. :-) I'll just keep it up and hope it evens out soon.

Good gravy yes. Some days I'm more tired than others, and I couldn't tell you what I did differently on those days that I'm more awake.

I was asleep before 9 last night...I have only been on Met 16 days. I have found that I am more tired at night, but able to get out of bed fairly easy in the morning...this last weekend, I got out of bed at 7, back in bed by 8 and slept until 11:30...VERY rare for me

I noticed that I was really tired the first couple of days, but not I get really tired if I miss a dose.

You should try taking a b complex vitamin. I think met depletes it from our bodies but dont quote me on that because i'm not for sure. I do know that adding b complex 50 helped me with fatigue alot

    Hey Guys

I have been on Metformin (500mg) since July 2008. Initially, everything was great - I had loads of energy and even lost around 15 lbs in the last few months. MY periods also became regular. In March 2009, I started feeling tired, fatigued and my right arm would hurt and I would eat a lot - only sweet or spicy food. VEry bad taste in the mouth - nausea and my throat would feel too dry and always wanted to drink something cold and sweet. Then the Endo asked me to cut down my metformin and spiro - leading upto 250 mg (twice a day, total = 500) and 50mg Sprionoloactone (once a day). I was back to normal energy and I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I started Syntroid (50mg). But after a week, I started feeling tired and exhausted again. Since yesterday, I don't even have the energy too watch TV or even check my email. I didn't take metformin last night or this morning. But even after few hours, I feel tired and my arms are achy. I am eating a lot and craving for sweet food or drinks. My throat feels too dry and can't open my eyes. It is Sunday, so can't even call the endo. I don't know what to do. Anybody, has any similar experiences. My hands feel so tired. Please advice guys. Do you think I have low B12 levels or vitamin D deficiency due to metformin. Please advice guys!!!!
