    Red face Progesterone and AF??

About how long until you get AF after starting progesterone? I started taking them on Fri....today's Tuesday and nothing still. My endo said it'll probably be about 3 days, but maybe longer.

Anyone notice it taking a little longer than usual. Havn't had AF since 5/08. Not really looking forward to it, but can't start Metformin until then. Thanks for the help!!

Usually AF will start within a few days to two weeks after finishing the pills.

Very rarely will it start before then.

It is not the progesterone itself that brings on a bleed, but rather the progesterone withdraw that does. It mimics what naturally happens in your cycle basically, because after Ov your body makes progesterone, and then if you are not pregnant it stops making progesterone... which in turns causes AF.

    Hope that helps.

(Also, have some medicine on hand for the cramps. Going that long without AF will mean a very built up lining, which will mean a really heavy crampy AF most likely.

Which, just so you know for future reference, you should not let happen again. Missing AF for more than two months increases your risk of cancer in the uterus from it not shedding the lining. Not something to mess with. I went a year without AF once, and my doctor never even warned me of this. When I found a doctor who knew what they were doing, she flipped out that I had went so long with AF. She was VERY concerned. If you do not get AF every few months, you need to ask your doctor for something to bring it on.)

AF usually doesn't come until a day or 2 after you stop taking progesterone.

My endo put 2 refills on the script....should I wait to refill it until a couple of days? I have felt crampy all week, but no AF yet. Don't want to spend anymore money than I have to. Took my last pill today. So I'm assuming if nothing by Sunday, than I'll have to. Thanks ladies.

    Default Prices...

Check it out, because I checked some websites and it looks like the progesterin i was on is "synthetic" so progesterone and progesterin may be two types of almost the same thing, but different like iced tea from tea bags and iced tea from powder. ones "real" and ones "fake" apparently i was on the "fake" kind so it might be cheaper, but Walmarts pharmacy is great for being really cheap...

When I have used progesterone to start AF, it typically takes about week after stopping. The progesterone doesn't case AF, stopping the progesterone causes AF. Therefore, you need to give it a little while to work.

I doubt your doc meant the refills for you to take more consecutively. Those are probably for next cycle/month.

I agree with Stacie. I do not think your doc meant for you to take the 10 day regimen back to back. My RE told me the same thing that it could take as long as 2 weeks after finishing my last medroxyprogesterone (Provera) pill before AF came to visit. This is my first round with the Provera, so I can't help much with what it's going to be like yet. I actually started my first pill 2 days ago so I still have over a week to go before I know anything. Good luck with the AF though.

PLAN OF ACTION: Weight loss (Down 17 pounds already!!) and just keep trying. RE says next step is Clomid.
CURRENT MEDICATIONS: Metformin to 1000 mg b.i.d. (when I take it) and Prenatal vitamins.
