Rant: I am a Mom. Really.

Today is the first Mother's Day after the loss of my son. Today also happens to be three months since he was born.

Apparently, even though I carried him and gave birth to him and held him while he died, I am not worthy enough of Mother's Day.

I'm not looking for extravagant gifts. I just wanted an acknowledgement from someone in my life, other than my friends on the boards here, that I am a Mother.

I get the same thing from my family. Now my husband and his family acknowledge that I am a mother. And so are you. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU!!!! So sorry to here about your loss. Hugs to you.

I'm with you, girlie. My grandma is the only one so far that has said Happy Mother's Day to me - not even DH...and I don't think he's going to.

Something to consider, since your loss was much, much later than mine...people might be afraid to say anything. They might not want to upset you or make you cry or bring up old feelings. People who haven't gone through this don't understand it...and that can be scary.

However, we do understand. So, Happy Mother's Day!

It is harder to be a parent to a deceased child than to a living one. I am glad "those people" don't know how hard it is, but I wish they would give you the warmth and care that you deserve on a special day!! You will always be a mother to Stephen, and he will always be your son. Sometimes we have to demand what we need and explain it in very simple terms to the IRL people around us, sigh. Thank goodness that was not a problem for our family, but you are among many jilted mommas here. (((Hugs)))

Update - on Monday morning, first thing DH said to me was "Sorry" and he should have been more considerate for my first Mother's Day; he just wasn't sure how to approach it.

I am so sorry for the loss of your little angel boy. I too looked at your facebook album. He is so precious! You ARE a mom and I am so sorry the people in your life can't put their uncomfortable feelings aside and acknowledge that for you.

Oh, why can't people in the real world be more like you ladies?!? But at least we have each other here... and cheers to us because we somehow find the strength to keep going, especially when it hurts.
