Thread: Can someone help me understand these numbers?

Default Can someone help me understand these numbers?

My current endo thinks I may have been mistakingly diagnosed with PCOS. A recent ultrasound showed no cysts and he wants to re-run bloodwork. In the meantime, I had bloodwork from my old Endo sent to me, but I don't quite understand if it *looks* PCOS-esque or not. Can anyone help with some insight on if this is normal? The numbers are as follows:

    TSH 1.13
    LH 5.4
    FSH 4.3
    Testo 95
    Prog .9
    E2 56
Prolactin 32.6 (but I believe it may have come back down on a later test)

Hi I am not too sure what those readings mean or whether you do have pcos or not. Do you have any other of the common symptoms like excess hair etc. I'm sure your endocrinologist will get to the bottom of this for you. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
    Best wishes.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I was diagnosed back when I was 18 or so but have always been thin. Ever now and then I get what I call "renegade peach fuzz" (lol)...a rouge hair or two on the side of my jaw line but nothing that requires waxing etc. My blood sugar runs low, but all diabetes tests came back fine. The only thing I have that is like PCOS is the lack of periods. It's a bit confusing and I'm trying to get to my next appointment with an idea of what this all might mean.

TSH looks good. LH and FSH ratio is fine. Testosterone is high (which can be indicative of PCOS). Progesterone is fine. Estrodial looks fine. Prolactin is high (and can be indicative of PCOS).

Given that you have irregular cycles, hypoglycemia, and two blood tests that are abnormal, I don't think your previous doctor was crazy to think PCOS. It doesn't hurt to have your new doctor redo the blood work. But, it is important to remember that ovarian cysts are only a symptom of PCOS and are not required for a diagnosis. In fact, many women with PCOS have no ovarian cysts at all, and many are also thin.

If your endo thinks it isn't PCOS, what does he think it is?

I am not sure myself. I have the levels of when I was first diagnosed.

    TSH 2.17
    FSH 5.2
    LH 22.3
    TESTO 4.8
    PROLACTIN 18.2

I have had this since I was 12 and I wasnt diagnosed until I was 26.

    Hi,
Thanks for taking a look! He hasn't expressed yet what he thinks it may be. His recent blood work/ultrasound he did showed high a high red blood cell count, liver cyst, and low potassium. It's kind of a mess right now, but he seemed interested in looking more into the PCOS (or lack there of). I was kind of blind sided when he came back with all of the other things and didn't ask enough questions as to *what* he may think it is instead. Thanks again and congrats on the upcoming baby.

I really appreciate you posting your numbers as well; it's difficult to find anything to compare off of. Thanks.
