    Default TSH normal....

Has anyone been diagnosed with hypothyroid but had normal TSH? I know that T3 and T4 need to be checked too (I'm currently waiting to see a new endo and will have all my bloodwork done then) but my RE only checks TSH and it's been well within the normal range both times it was checked. In Feb'07 it was 1.55 and in Aug'08 it was 1.63 (normal range in Canada is 0.4-4.0).

YES! I had thyroid cancer and up to the day before surgery to remove the cancer the TSH was reading normal. My cancer and treatment experience was 10 years ago. I have since been on synthroid and am doing well. I don't remember the T3 and T4 readings from 10 years ago---I'm not even certain if I had both then. But I would encourage you to have the T3 and T4 checked and have the doc to physically examine your thyroid and surrounding tissue.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm sorry to hear what you had to go through though. I'm so glad you are doing well now. The crappy part is that I don't have my appt iwth my new endo to check my thyroid until November! I'm so ticked!! I had my annual appt with my gp and he's doing b/w but when I saw he only had TSH down I mentioned T3 and T4. His response was "we'll let the endo take care of that". Ugh!! So I shall continue to wait I guess.

Waiting for appts, for tests, for results... is often how we spend our time. I can only think that it might be best for your GP to leave the sophisticated tests to the Endo...

Lifting you in prayer as you wait.

No. I am hypothiroid and mine was like 11. It went from 7 to 11 in one week. Nuts! But now is controlled! The pills should control it very quickly.
