    Default Concentration and/or memory issues?

Does anyone else also seem to have concentration and/or memory issues? I think this could also just be my thyroid issue, but I was wondering if any other PCOSers also seem to have these problems. It is almost like an adult attention deficit and also bad short-term memory problems.

wow I thought I was the only one!
I am known for my short attention span (can't help but wander off and think about something else.. even during mid conversation) and bad short term memory..

could it have something to do with PCOS?

I seem to forget almost EVERYTHING....and it only started a few months ago it seems....I never had this problem before.......I have had PCOS for about 10 years (maybe more, but was DX'd 9.5 years ago), and now it seems with each year some "new and not so wonderful" symptoms arrive!

I have had concentration and memory issues since being diagnosed. It is frustrating because I am a full time student and I seem to struggle especially with long term memory.

I have *always* had memory problems! I used to think I was just nuts, but I'm constantly struggling to find even the most common words. I'll just trail off mid-sentence, pantomiming and growing more and more frustrated while the ONE stupid word I need manages to elude me. People must think I'm psycho or that I have early-onset Alzheimer's or something. It's been getting worse - guess I need to mention that at my next dr's appointment!

BTW - I was dx'd at age 29, but knew something was wrong from age 12.

Concentration and/or memory problems are really common in any condition caused by hormonal imbalances, including PCOS and hypothyrodism. I started to have really bad concentration and memory when my prolactin levels spiked when I had my prolactinoma. Once my prolactin level started to decrease, my concentration and memory improved.
    No PCOS diagnosis yet...
Feel free to ask me about hyperprolactinemia though, just had my prolactinoma removed through brain surgery. Happier and healthier already...

Mmm, I've had memory and concentration problems for a long time, too. Ironically, I can't remember just how long!

Does anyone know of any studies conducted on concentration and memory issues related to hormonal imbalances. If so send me a link . Thanks.

I am on the way to being diagnosed with PCOS and I have had memory problems since I can remember and I was diagnosed with ADD in high school and started taking meds and it does help but I do have processing and memory problems still.

I have such a bad memory, it's almost funny! Not really, but yeah. I have such a hard time remembering...anything. It's bad enough that I sometimes have to write down when I've taken my meds because within a few hours i'll have actually forgotten that I already took them (I've double-dosed a few times).

I don't have attention problems really, but I have a HORRIBLE short term memory. It's hard for me to remember more then 3 or 4 numbers in a row, and I forget if I have told people things so I end up saying things like "Did I tell you we need milk?" but I will end up saying that 2 or 3 times before I remeber I already asked. Drives my family nuts.

It seems to be connected to my hearing though..if I read written instructions on how to do something I will remember it faster...but if someone just tells me how to do it, I will have to ask them over and over "What did you say to do?" I hate it!!

I've also noticed that in the last 2 or 3 years my vocabulary is shrinking! I almost feel like I have had a mini stroke or something. I'm hoping that as I get my PCOS under control I will return to being the wise and intelligent person I use to be!

I've always had a poor memory. It seems to have gotten much worse after weight loss, and also I believe that not only PCOS issues effect it, but the fact that I'm on a low carb diet. It can affect memory and concentration.

I had experienced this a lot and finally my dr had me try strattera as it is not a stimulant (like the kids get a methamphetimine). I had to regulate the dose (now at 60) but it works! I tried to go off to do a cycle for iui....no go - I lost track of everything and everyone, appts, ppwrk, you name it.
    good luck!
