    Default hi all

Hi girls kilkenny girl here, been looking for a site with all this info for ages. Knew I had something wrong for ten years and my friend said it sounded like pcos, went to the doc about 7 years ago and they sent me for the usual scan etc and told me nothing was wrong and just left me. finally mt bf convinced me to go back so 6 weeks ago the nurse told me it was pcos and that the dr would confirm it. He said it sounded like it but he didn't like to lable people and would usually not tell anyone they had anything. He then looked over my old tests and said it was on my bloods but they hadn't told me. He then said because my periods were basically non excistant he would put me on clomid, otherwise he wouldn't see me for 2 years!!!!
What the hell is wrong with this country its blood awful that no one seems to care about womens health.

Sorry for ranting but i know you've all prob been through the same.

    Love and blessings xxx

It seems we have a quite a collective of girls from Ireland here!! Im really happy with that

Welcome Poppy!! I hear you on the sleep, even before I got pregnant I could sleep for like 14hrs and Id feel ok. Anything less and Id be knackered for the day, something that helped me was probiotic drinks. I read up as well that there might be a link with PCOS and Anxiety/Depression disorders! And there was me thinkin I was bonkers for ages!

Welcome Ophillia! Love the username, is it your real name? And I hear you on the country and the way it works!! I got diagnosed when I was 16-17, I had blood tests done and they said it wasnt PCOS, shortly afterwards I contracted Glandular Fever which led to chronic tonsilitus and had to get them out, but while I was sick, this other doc took over my case as my usual GP took leave to take care of her dad. So, this woman was a hardass! She was a bit on the mean upfront side, but by God did she push everything for me! She got me my op sooner and said we would test for PCOS after the op. And true to her word, she did. She did the bloods again, but did them 'deeper'?? I think it was a more indepth look at it, the bloods showed a bit of elevation so she sent me for a scan.

I arrive at the place and the lady tells me empty my bladder, she would see it better on an internal - I was horrified! And the lady wasnt that nice , it was a bit like "up on the bed, pants off," and that was probably our conversation. But I read my report and the doc confirmed it.

By that time, my old stupid GP was back and she said the only thing I could ever do for my PCOS was to go on the pill (Poppy, I had a few like microlite make me the devils bride lol, I was awful! Yasmin worked wonders, I lost weight on it - then kept forgetting to take it lol!).

At least with a group of us here, we could begin setting up a list of PCOS friendly docs and things. Im really glad there are so many of us!

KAREN!! Baby dust heading your way! Keep us updated!! I think I concieved on the 14th Jan, by the 28th I was like "IM PREG" and DH was like "No, your just crazy," I had the worst boob pain!! Never had it before then. And voila, Feb 3rd Doc confirmed we were preg.

    Baby dust and sticky dust!!

Hey everyone so good to be able to read some irish advice at last! Def think a list of irish pcos friendly doctors etc would be brilliant. Right now I thought Ild share my story, sorry if its long!

I was diagnosed over 7 years ago now and the only treatment or help I was offered was dianette and told to loose weight which is so hard. I have varying symptoms - tiredness, hirituism, overweight, bad skin, painful or missing periods, pms, depression, glucose intolerence and im sure the list could go on. Anyway Dianette helped mask the problems but i knew that I didnt want to rely on it in the long run to control symptoms but I think here in Ireland were not offered any other options.

My main battle over the years has been with my weight and learning to like myself symptoms and all. I have tried every diet and while I would loose some after awhile it would just pile back on. I eat when Im tired or depressed and felt like I was stuck in a downward spiral no matter what I did. (I also just have to look at food and I gain weight!)

After i hit rock bottom I realised there was only one way left to go, up and beat this horrible thing that I was letting control my life. So I decided to take control, research pcos myself and find a way to beat it. Ive tried everything natural supplements, diets, other pills etc. but they just didnt work for me so all I had left to tackle was the glucose intolerance. I asked to be referred to an endocrinologist and he turned out to be great and surprised me by knowing an awful lot about pcos and its link with insulin resistance. So I now attend a dietician and am following a low gi diet and 2 weeks ago I started taking glucophage and I have to say I feel great (side effects aside). I am loosing weight and for once I actually have the energy to do things (previously i had convinced myself that I was just being lazy). My confidence is also slowly building back up at last. I really hope i can keep off the weight and then hopefully that will ease my other symptoms and work for me so fingers crossed.

Like you poppy I really want to talk with people who know where Im coming from and understand the struggle were on and also get some IRISH advice and help

So really looking forward to hearing from you all

    Hi girls,
hi Shalamar, no my real names maggie haha. Its great to see so many people here, we should definately get a list of dr's because from what i've heard no one seems to care about us.

I'm still trying to get a list of questions together for my next visit, it really seems though from my last visit that he isn't too bothered to answer them.

Have you girls got any advice that i can take with me like tests i should ask for or anything i just feel a bit lost at the minute.

I'm waiting on a second scan at the minute, but he said himself that scans are a waste of time because they wont show anything up through the weight i'm carrying. The last scan i had years ago it was like an army operation. I never got told to drink water so had to try drink it all down in one go before the scan. Got in and just told get on the bed and that was it she then did the scan and started calling in other staff members, i started to freak out thinking something was seriously wrong and it turned out the machine was new and she was showing them how cool the new buttons were.

I thought being actually told i had something would make it easier to work with but at the minute i think i'm worse off.

Sorry for all the whinging, but i know you can understand xx

    love and blessings

Maggie, it is tough here! Just finding out the problem is half the battle ya know? You should really ask for an internal scan, I know its uncomfortable, but it really is the only way to diagnose it completely for fluffy girls like me

And trust me, it only gets harder with pregnancy! We are viewed on our weight, not the life growing inside of us.

One thing I think this country finds hard to get through their skull is that YES we know losing weight will help us ease our symptoms, but do they realise how hard it is to lose said weight? I gave up. A friend of mine with PCOS went to the gym everyday for 1hr for a year and lost no weight. Thats crazy!! Her cholesterol is non existant etc but they cant understand it.

As for tests, I only had the scan and blood test. I went to see a hair specialist myself. The doc sent me to see a gyny, but he was horrible. He just looked me over, didnt actually do anything.

Millie, congrats on the weight loss!! It seems your doing whats right for you and thats great Keep it up! I think the hard part for us girls is learning to accept ourselves, bad parts and all.

For me, I have a B Belly, its like a double belly, one above my belly button, the other bellow. Im roughly 20st, I had hair missing on top (got that sorted) Im dark haired so I would grow a 'beard' and mustache, waxing once a month helped and a little patch on my back of hair. Also, i have the tanned thighs and underarms of PCOS, and my thighs would get acne that us PCOSers are prone to. And skin tags!! One on my thigh that was removed a few months ago.

I used to be SO ashamed of them, but Ive grown to accept them, and finding people that accept you helps too. My DH finds a lot of my symptoms endearing and that helps.

A good way to accept your differences is to name them

Wow, its so great to have found you girls here. Shalamar my belly is the same and it makes me feel so disgusting, luckily like you i have an understanding bf, i get terrible side burn and upper lip, chin and under my chin hair too, it really makes ya feel less of a woman.

Yea the weight thing is nuts, i'm at 16 st 2 for the last 4 years, i tried unislim before i was diagnoised and lost a stone but gained it all back again, no matter what ya eat or exercise ya do it seems to make little difference.

I know i seem really bitter here, but i am delighted to have the diagnoised because at least i know now that the fertility aspect can be looked at i really want kids and it has been breaking my heart the last few years not knowing if i would ever had any. I'm so delighted to hear the stories of all the girls who have finially gotten pregnant and i know they will all be fantastic mothers after having to work so hard to have there little angels.

    Love to all

    Maggie xxx

Maggie, I hear ya on the weight! Ever since I made my teens, I was always 1stone ahead of my age can you believe! So, at 16, I was 17 stone. At 17 I was 18stone and I stayed that weight until Sept this year (I had an accident and because I couldnt use my knee as much, I gained almost 2 stone). Its hard and tough going. I was in weight watchers and lost 2 stone, but put it back on double by the end of the year.

I was always nervous that my fertility would be horrible, that because I wanted kids desperately I wouldnt be able to have them, and then I met Tony, and he has fertility issues too, but look at us now We moved in together and we had a surprise lol! But, thats not to say next time round will be as easy.

And as for the hair! Oh my God, I hate my facial hair lol. I bought home wax strips and I keep on top of it, I wax my chin, lip, side burns. And I love seeing it hairless, I feel more sexy! So I know what you mean. I have a cousin who started shaving hers, and now she has stubble on her cheek, all because she shaved instead of waxed! Crazy isnt it?

And dont worry, in the day and age we are in, we can have so much help from people for our fertility and PCOS. Did you know there is a hospital in Cambridge England that does a form of IVF, called IVM - specifically for PCOS ladies trying to concieve, its tailored to us. So, if you cant find what you need here in this country, go to the next best thing lol!

Lots of baby dust heading your way when your ready for it
