Question Anyone have HSG done? 2 MCs gettin tested

I just went thru 2nd MC... D&C done last month Sept 16th... anyhow... I'm fortunate enough my doctor can start some testing to find out why I miscarry... anyhow...I'm going in for the HSG Hysterosalpingogram
i guess its where they shoot dye into the uterus to check for blocked tubes and other possible anomalies... has anyone ever had this done? Is it painful? Any info would be great...i go in this Friday and was kinda worried...

You might get more info on the TTC part of the forums as I think it's more commonly done for infertility.

My advice to you is to load up on Ibuprofen before you go. It is quite uncomfortable and no one told me to do that. Hope that helps and good luck with your journey!

I agree with Juls. I actually had no problem with my first HSG but I took a vicodin I believe before I went. The 2nd one I figured would be a breeze since it was like nothing the first time. HA! It was a little uncomfortable. But once the dr. stopped pushing the dye through the pain subsided. Definitely take something beforehand.

I am so sorry for your losses. I went through all the testing to check for a reason. HSG, hysterosonogram, genetic testing and even had a septum removed from my uterus. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck on Friday!

From talking to a lot of different women about HSGs, I have found that the amount of discomfort/pain really depends on your doctor and if your tubes are blocked. My HSG just felt like a really bad menstrual cramp for about 30 seconds. The whole procedure took 2-3 minutes. I had a doctor that has done 100s of these tests so he was very gentle. I only took 1 aleve beforehand and was just fine (I did have cruddy brown discharge for days after the procedure). However, several women have reported a lot more pain and discomfort if the doctor took longer or if the doctor used the dye to push open blockages. Good luck!!!

That's great news about the results. Glad the hsg wasn't too painful. Hopefully you'll get some answers from the bloodwork.
