Unhappy 1st loss (ectopic). What to expect?

I just confirmed today that my pregnancy is ectopic. I'm so upset. This is the first time we got pregnant in over a year and now it's ectopic! I have to go later today for the shot to dissolve the pregnancy. What should I expect in terms of side affects from the shot and what will happen afterwards. How long does it take to get HCG levels down? Mine are about 3500 as of now.

    TIA,

    Rebecca

Rebecca - I can't personally tell you what to expect with the shot. There are a few women on here who have had ectopic pregnancies who will hopefully pop in and help you with better information than I can give.

I did do a "what to expect with a methotrexate shot" search on google. From what I read to expect a delay between the shot and the bleeding, of a couple days(some as much as a week before the bleeding). That it will (or can) cause bloating and gassiness. Most said about a week of bleeding or so and cramps ranging from mild to severe. They also said that your hcg levels won't go down right away, that it normally happens between days 4 and 7 after the shot.

I would ask your doctor what to expect, as well as when you can start TTC again when you are emotionally ready. It sucks for us women to have such a hard time getting pregnant because of PCOS and then we still end up having to deal with the statistics of losing our babies. I wish it was 'well it took you long enough to get here, we'll make it easy on you' but it doesn't work that way.

Took hubby and I 8 years and 150 pound weight loss on me to get our bfp, and we lost our son at 22 weeks to incompetent cervix. Just seemed so WRONG to me. I have always believe that nothing happens without a reason, I prayed for a long time to know what that reason was, knowing I would probably never find out. I found out earlier this month - I'm expecting again already. Our Christopher wasn't due until November 7th, if he had lived this tiny life would not be here.

Please know that this is probably going to be hard on you for awhile. If you want, give your baby a name, do whatever you can to help you and your hubby through this. Some need space, some need each other. For me, I hurt every day, even with this new baby, but the pain is a reminder to me that Christopher was here, and is still here in my heart. Don't let anyone tell you that your baby was only here for a short time, because IMO the moment you even think you might be preggers you become a parents, a mom, you have a baby. The pain isn't greater, or less, simply because person x spend months with their little one and you only got weeks. Love is love, plain and simple.

If I can help in any way please let me know.

sorry for your loss. i don't know anything about the physical part. i can tell you about the emotional. i had my first loss 4 weeks ago. the best advice people gave me was to cry when you need to cry, talk when you need to talk, and be good to yourself and dh. The first week dh and i went to a few of our favorite places, and watch some of our favorite funny movies. we stuck by eachother the whole week. neither one of us wanted anyone else around, we just wanted each other. the two of you will get eachother through this.
    i wish you the best.
