Question will 500 mg of met daily start af

    Hi Ladies,
I am susposed to take 1500mg of met 3 500 mg tablets daily. I just cant seem to keep them down when I take them. I get so sick to the point that I pretty much spend most of my day in the bathroom. So I have only been taking 500mg at night before I go to bed. And I have no side affects. I have been doing this now for about a week.
My question is does anyone else take this low dosage and still get Af? I have not seen af yet. But I am not consistant with taking the medication because I get so sick. My dr. said the side affects go away and I need to stick to it and I am trying but it is hard.
    Any advice???
    Thanks Kat

Did your doc start you out on the 1500 mg? Mine started me on 500 mg and then once my body adjusted we slowly started adding more. I am now on 1000 mg a day and tolerate it fine.. so I feel I'm ready to go up again!

Maybe try adding more slowly so it's not such a jolt to your body!

Also... I really didn't notice any positive changes on the met until I hit the 1000 mg . But I'm sure everyone is different!

I agree with Cassy. You need to start upping your dose up towards the maximum dose that you have been prescribed slowly.

Many cysters do not experience a positive cycle change until they are on a much higher dose. For some, it is 1000mg, some 1500- some higher.

Different dosages work for different people- but don't lose hope- you've got a lot of "room" for treatment if the 500mg does not produce any positive effects on it's own.

    Good Luck, Cysta!

Ask your dr. about Glucophage XR. It is controlled release and usally much easier on your stomach. I am taking that and have no problem. I couldn't handle the regular Met at all.

I started taking met 2/20/02 1500mg a day.. i started feeling sick too but after reading a lot of posts from other cysters experiencing the same side effects, i found that changing the way i eat has a lot to do with it.. i can't eat a lot of greasy, fatty foods. or a lot of sweet drinks, (punch and soda). my af came on it's own last month and just had one this month and i'm happy becuz i haven't had one back to back before in a long time.

talk to your doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Default Will af come with met????

    Hi, Katrina,
I have not had an AF in 9 years on my own.. I have a daughter who is 10 yrs and I guess that was the last time I o'd on my own (I am very grateful) I have been on met for 4 weeks and no AF my last one was on January 6 (with assistance of provera) I went to the doctor and he said to take provera because I have to get my AF every month.. I guess I'll have to wait until next month to see if it comes with my met... I think he will increase the dosage to 1000! I'am excited. I just want to AF on my own

I will pray for your sister's safe return and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!

I have just started the Metformin 500 mg on Wednesday March 26 and 3 days later on Saturday the 29th I got AF. I think that might be too early to say it was Metformin that had it show up. Who knows. I guess I will find out next month what happens.
