    Default questions for type II's

for those of you with Type II diabetes can you answer some questions?

*when were you diagnosed with diabetes?
    *How old were you?
*what was your weigh at the time of diagnosis?
*can IR's avoid diabetes by weight loss and exercise?
    hi!

    me2

I was diagnosed almost 4 years ago

I was 40 years old at the time

I weighed 227 on that fateful day ( now weigh 140)

I believe that if someone who is IR can catch it before they turn diabetic and they manage their weight, diet, AND exercise (very important part often overlooked) that they can, indeed often prevent diabetes.

I believe that much of the research proves this out...
I am diabetic. (just means I am sweeter then most =))

I was diagnosed late August this year. 43 years old, 270, and yes, you can definitely avoid diabetes or prevent it for a long long time through diet and exercise.

I was 45 (two years ago(), weighed about 340, and the research definitely shows that weight loss and exercise can prevent the development of diabetes in those with insulin resistance.

Hi me2...I was just diagnosed last month on 10/1...I weighed about 255 at the time (I am now down to 243). I am 27 years old. I was insulin resistant officially since 5/00 and was on 1000mg of Glucophage XR since then. I didn't really watch my eating too much and didn't take my doctor seriously when she said that I was high risk for becoming diabetic. I figured that since I was on Glucophage, I was going to be fine. Weeellllllll, here I am 3 and half years later...diabetic. I feel that you can reduce your chances of becoming diabetic with diet and exercise, but regular visits to your endocrinologist to moniter your levels is key. It had been about a year since I had seen my doc...but I am glad I caught it when I did. Being diagnosed explained a lot of what I had been feeling in the month and a half prior to my testing. I thought that my insulin would be low, with my glucose being so high...but to my suprise, my fasting insulin was near 90 with my fasting glucose at 144. I didn't exercise and didn't really watch what I ate (not meaning that I ate nothing but junk food...but I didn't watch my carb intake). Plus I have a family history of diabetes...good luck...I hope this helps...

Kristy, I've been wondering how you were doing since your worried post earlier in the fall. I'm glad you know now where you stand! Cause you can take measures to work on stuff right, now. Diabetes is the ultimate self-help disease. You can do soooooo much to control it. And you've already had a big weight loss, so you are already seeing some results. Congratulations!
