    Default Spotting

Last month, I spotted 14 days before my period. It lasted just a few hours and was extremely light. I of course, panicking, write a message on the board and got some responses that this was probably ovulation spotting. Whew! And, I think that was correct because my period started 14 days later. (I heard you always ovulate 14 days before you period) This month, I spotted again on my 17th day. Now, 7 days later, I started to spott again although I'm pretty sure this is my normal period starting as my breasts were sore last week and I usually have spotting before my regular heavy period. So, my question is, can you ovulate 7 days before your 7 -9 days before your period? OR is it always 14 days?

If this wouldn't be ovulation what would be? I called the gyne, and she said to talk to the endo because she might want to run tests. But, I was just there last monthand my hormones were normal - and that was after my spotting episode. She agreed that it probably was ovulation since it was 14 days before my period. SO, what do you think? Could this be ovulation late in the cycle? I tried calling her office but they must be closed today for the holiday.

    Thanks!!!!

    Another question -

When you spot midcycle, does anyone know if you spot after ovulation or before. I was doing a little research and this seems like it could be what they call luteal phase defect -when you period starts less than 12 days after ovulation. (Although this the Lutel phase isn't supposed to change from month to month and last month it was 14 days.)

So, know I'm wondering, would I have ovulated a couple days prior to the spotting, or that same day. And, since I'm having my normal 2 or 3 days of spotting prior to my period, what day do I actually count as the first day of my period?

I probably should put this on the trying to concieve board, but I'm not trying to conceive, just trying to be more aware of what my body is doing. My Metformin was increased six months ago, and I'm wondering if this has to do with my hormones adjusting again.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

I hope all had a great New Year!

You're homones are always adjusting!!! When you change medication, when you change diet, exercise... any little things can effect your hormones! With that said...

Sounds like O with the first month, but there is no guarentee... even though you are not ttc you should maybe temp to get an idea what it is! You're luteral phase can change month to month... mine does it goes from 13-16 depending on the month... remember we are not 'normal' women we have ever changing bodies that IMHO like nothing the same! lol Typically you spot after O... cause the blood comes from the rupture of the egg being released.... so yeah I guess you could have actually Oed a couple days before. The first day of your period is when its a 'normal' flow and red blood! (normal flow is what ever is normal for you... if its heavy if its light... whatever)

If you dont feel comfortable posting on the ttc then dont... post where you feel okay about posting... this is a question about your met and how its affecting your cycles! Us ttcers post all over the board... so you'll get your answers no matter where the question is asked!

Thank you so much for the help. I always tend to over react a little when it comes to changes with my body! (I think this has to do with the fact of knowing that somehting is wrong and trying to figure out what it was(PCOS) for years and being told I'm normal.) But, at anyrate, Thanks for the help. I read about the temping online and I think I'm going to do that. It would definitely help me to determine if I have ovulatory periods or not. I think I do since I have symptoms of ovulation, but it would be good to know for when I am finally ready to ttc.

    Thanks again.
