Default Lo-Carb Support Group for Thin Cysters...?

I was wondering if anyone in this forum was interested in starting a lo-carb support group for those of us who are changing our diet to regulate our hormones, but not lose weight. I'm of normal weight (although losing up to 5 lbs or so wouldn't make me too disappointed ).

I'm trying to do the South Beach diet, but didn't start at the phase 1 (b/c of the weight loss in that phase)...just trying to cut out as many "bad" carbs as possible. I have to say I could definitely use the support. I love sweets, breads and fruit, so I'm finding it very difficult to cut the carbs. Lately everything I'm hungry for is on the list of no nos (I broke down today and ate a few of the mini milk choc. cadberry eggs).

I was thinking that if anyone else were interested we could bolster each other a bit.

I Oed for the first time last month on met and cutting carbs, so want to maintain the willpower to keep up with the regime as I'm TTC.

    Anyone with me?
    Cheers.

    Default I'll join!

I'd love to help keep everyone's spirit's up! I'm not on met or anything right now, but i AM eating very low sugar/moderate carb. It's been absolutely wonderful so far. My periods, which basically didnt' exist before, are regulating (on friday i was positively HYPER because i soaked a tampon - it had never happened before). I have noticed SO many good things since starting this diet!

But don't think you're alone in the splurging...in the first week i started this, i had a piece of chocolate cake...MAN it was so good, but i knew it was a bad idea. I still splurge a bit, but definitely in moderation.

Glad to see other people in this forum low carbing!

    Count me in!

I'm having a hard sticking to my WOE. Especially since I'm thin, nobody respects the fact that I need to watch what I eat.

But I'm scrambeling back on the wagon.

Hooray! I'm so excited that there is interest...and so, far you both have been able to regulate your cycles without meds. I think that's fantastic. I'm taking the met right now b/c I wanted to get pg as soon as possible, but I'm hoping after getting pg I can get things regular with just diet. I'm trying to stick to between 100 and 150 g of carbs a day...although I don't always count...and eliminate things like bread, rice, potatoes, etc.

    What are you ladies doing?

What about exercise...are you combining your eating plan with exercise...I'm trying to walk 45-1 hr 3-5 times a week.
    Cheers.

    Default Count me in

I did low carb to regulate my hormones and to help me concieve 3 years ago. After 10 months of stict low carb, we concieved. This was after 2 years earlier of clomid, etc.... After having my daughter 18 months ago, I thought I was normal and needed no more low carb diet. Turns out that I am in worse shape now (internally) than I was before I concieved. The Dr. says I really need to start low carb again and consider BC for hormone regulation. I'm only slightly overweight, so I can idenitfy. I would love to join a support group of cyters with similar needs.

    I'm in!

I need the accountability. I've been trying to eat Low GI - not necessarily low carb, but good carbs & low GI. but lately I've been cheating, talk about chocolate cake - instead of dinner the other night.

I'm also on Met - moving up to 1500mg this month - and trying to walk 45 min 3-4 times a week.

Count me in on this one! I have been low carbing since 1/1/04. My acne has cleared up a bunch so hopefully its all working out. I also cheat once in a while. I figure that I have too or one day I am going to freak out and buy all of the Kripsy Kremes I can get my hands on. The worst part has been the chocolate. If I cave on that its instant Acne! maybe we could start a thread for recipes that are low carb so we dont get so bored eating that same food?

I'm so excited that a bunch of us are geared up for doing this. I'm with everyone on the choc. (see earlier post about the cadberry eggs...he he). I've been joking with my husband that the reason people lose weight on the lo-carb diet is b/c you're so disgusted with your choices you choose not to eat at all.

Last night I made myself a list of some possibilities for various meals and snacks. I left the list at home, but will post it tonight. If we put our heads together we ought to be able to think of interesting foods that we can eat...perhaps more interesting that some of the books suggest.

    Cheers.

Count me in too... I try to reduce bad carbs and shift to whole grains etc. I've just started taking 750mg calcium and magnesium - the magnesium is supposed to help get rid of the sugar cravings. I have a great DH who loves to cook, but I feel bad always nagging about not cooking pasta or using white flour or white rice.

    Default my exercise

Right now, as far as exercise goes, i'm going to curves about twice a week (i'm hoping to be able to up that to at least 3 eventually), and i'm also taking a beginner ballet class (even though i'm intermediate by now) and helping teach a 9-10 year old ballet class. I definitely think this has helped me regulate my periods and stuff like that.

Oh, and also, as far as high carb foods like pasta, white bread, etc.; has anyone else noticed that some of these foods that you USED to like are absolutely disgusting to you now? Tonight, for dinner, my mom made spaghetti and garlic bread (which i normally LOVE) and it just didn't taste very good. It's almost like i could taste how bad for me it was. I'm not feelin my best after having that either.

One thing that i could never stop loving, though, is chocolate. If any of ya'll know of good quality low carb chocolate made with splenda, PLEASE pass on the info! I'm getting desperate over here, and i don't necessarily want to spend forever in the bathroom when i need chocolate.

Did any of you have no periods and then get them back? If so what is the trick? I am desperatly trying to get mine back but no luck! Was it the low carbing?

    Thanks

    Default Low Carb Buddy

I'm interested .... I've started low carbing now for a week. I'm not all that crazy over sweets but for this week that's seems to be the only thing I won't to eat. I have incorporated exercise at least 3 x

Thumbs up Had a good evening

    Hey guys!
I had the new low carb chicken and ranch wrap from subway last night. It was pretty good. The tortilla for the wrap was not quite as goos as I would have expected, but the inside more than made up for it. I will say though, I was very hungary soon after, so I tried the Mayfield Neopolitan low carb ice cream. 3 carbs per serving! Ladies if you need a chocolate or ice cream fix..I have found the answer! This was awesome icecream!! Anybody excercise last night? I should have, but i didn't. I have been back on low carb for 5 days now and I can already tell that I am in a better mood. How's everyone else doing?

    Default I'm in

My Dr. just took me off Glucophage since my hormone levels are back to normal, and she's afraid I'm losing too much weight. (I was dx w/ PCOS six months ago and have been taking 1000 mg of Gluc XR up until now.) I'm very anxious to see if I can keep those levels in the right place simply by eating well and exercising.

Since I'm new to the board, what exactly does a support group involve? Do we just post to this thread about our low carb experiences, successes and slip-ups?

    Talking

Yeah, that sounds about right...we support each other, try to keep ourselves encouraged about what we eat, how much we exercise, etc.

As for me, no exercise today, I did stretch a bit though (i'm trying to be able to do splits easily within the next month or so...i'm about an inch and a half off the floor now). Yesterday i had enough exercise to make up for it though; every monday is my ballet classes (and choir), so i dance for about 2 hrs 45 min every monday (one is teaching a class). Definitely plenty of exercise there. I'm going to curves in the morning, so i'll have my exercise tomorrow too!

As for foodstuff...stayed pretty good today. Skipped breakfast (i'm usually asleep at that time), had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch (on sugar free bread), for dinner had a big salad with chicken strips and ranch dressing at work (chick-fil-a), and had a handful of peanuts a few moments ago. I'm still hungry though, and not a lot of low-carb food in the house. In a family of 9, where only me and my dad, who wants to lose weight, eat low carb, there is a LOT of tempting food around. In fact one of my younger brothers (he's 8) survives soley on carbs and milk...not sure how the kid does it. He's very very thin to say the least.

Oh yeah, i had one of those subway wraps too, but i for some reason said to put the oil and vinegar stuff in instead of the ranch (stupid me) and it tasted a bit odd. It was still pretty good though!

Sorry if i bored you all with a long post! :p
