Default Does Avandia make you fat and if so why?

I so did not want to go on Avandia, but my cholestrol is not coming down fast enough for the good doctor. I am now on a cocktail mix of met/avandia (I take spiro but that's for hair only).

I found on my 2nd day today that I got totally hunger half an hour ago and binged on girl scout cookies. I haven't binged for quite some time but i felt like my blood sugar was too low or something.

I had though taken a long walk..maybe that made everything kick in?

Maybe it's all in my head, I don't know about feeling my blood sugar was low.

Why do people gain weight on Avandia?
    I hope I don't.
    This is me.

I lost weight while on Avandia and was very happy with the results that I had while taking it. No horrible side effects like Glucophage or Met! I plan to resume taking Avandia as soon as I can after my baby is born.

I have never been one to follow diets closely, but by watching somewhat of what I ate and taking Avandia I ended up losing 45 pounds. Good Luck!

From what I understand you have water retention with it and therefore that is what causes the gain. I got a prescription for Actos today...will have to wait and see what happens.

    Default Weight gain & Avandia

You can experience water retention at the higher dosage of 8mg. I started off at 2mg & have been increased to 4mg. I have actually lost weight since being on it. I have not experienced any water retention. My doc just switched me to 1000/2mg Avandamet twice a day. I was tired of paying 2 co-pays to but Avandia & Met so he gave me the 2 pills in one. Since starting Avandia, my testosterone level has went down from 90 to 52 this past April. I started Avandia in July 2003. I have lost a little over 20 lbs since starting Avandia. I started WW on 3/11/04 & have had a lot of success w/that too. Since my testosterone level has come down I have also noticed a reduction in the amount of facial hair. Still have to get my chin waxed but not as often. I was having to go every 2 weeks before.

I just wanted to say thank you to the ladies that have responded to this post. I will be starting the Avandamet 2mg/1000mg 2 times a day. I was worried about the side effects, especially if I would gain weight or not considering I have lost 35 on met alone. Did any of you find that the Avandamet is all you needed to get pregnant on? Thanks again so much for the positive input on Avandamet and good luck to you all.
