Default Metformin for life or what??????

    Hi ladies,

I've been on glugophage XR 1500mgs for almost three years now. I've enjoyed weight loss around 70lbs however I'am still having to bring on AF with meds. My regular doc moved and I'am seeing another lady MD. She switched me to Cyclessa 10days instead of provera, because she says provera thins the uterus lining too much. Anyway, I just wonder am I going to have to stay on glucophage the rest of my life or what? I've kept a check on my liver levels however I worry about what the medication is doing to my kidneys. IF I could control my carbs I would quit the gluco all together, however I find when I try to reduce the med my facial hair increases. I guess my doc will keep me on it as long as I'am TTC. I go back next month to start on another round of clomid treatments. Maybe I should ask her if I should up the dosage of gluco or maybe she should check my bloodwork.

    God Bless,
    Suzie

It depends on your own situation, Suzie. Some ladies once they lose the weight can keep their hormones in line with just lifestyle...others cannot. So it's a matter of your own history and situation as to how your Dr responds.

My own physician would like for me to remain on it permanently because my insulin and hormone problems began way back when I was a teenager and my family history is just awful. IR can be independant of weight and I battled for years without success to keep my hormones in line. Now that I have found the diet, exercise and meds that'll do the trick, I plan to not change what's working.

It sounds like your symptoms get exacerbated when you lower the gluc, so you may be a candidate it long term...I would have a heart to heart with your new Dr and see what he/she thinks.

    All the best to you!
