Natural Remedies for the Hair???

Has anyone had any success for remedies concerning the hair?? I have started noticing my hair getting a little then and I wanted to start now with something versus spending $700.00 for the new laser comnbs that are out that are suppossed to help with hair growing back...... It's really starting to get to me everyday I look at it......URGH!!! I HATE THIS SYNDROME!!!!!!

Personally, adding a 50mg B vitamin complex, and taking Saw Palmetto from day 1 through ovuluation seemed to help a lot. It slowed the growth by half. I think that most of that was the B vitamins, since that's all I'm taking now (not good to take SP while pregnant).

It slowed your growth down!!!! Are you talking about your facial hair????? LOL I was talking about the hair on my head....it's been getting thinner...I know I wrote the wrong word in my earlier post....but I am trying to find something for my thinning hair!!!

I've been taking zinc and vitex for the past two months and I've noticed my hair is a lot shinier and looks great. I've had a lot of people remark on it without my mentioning that i'd done anything for it. It's a bit early yet to see if it's thicker, but it's certainly improved (also, for the first month ever I just had a 28 day cycle!!).

Thinning hair in women can be caused by several things: vitamin or mineral deficiency, high stress levels, low progesterone levels, elevated DHT levels, low thyroid function or essential fatty acid deficiency. You might want to start out by taking a high potency multivitamin/mineral without copper and iron ( or you can buy your supplements seperately for greater control) and also add one or two essential fatty acid supplements like flax seed oil or fish oil or GLA which is a wonderful fatty acid for the hair found in evening primrose oil, borage oil and black currant seed oil. Vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids are the basis of a supplement regimen and many times, they can get rid of hair loss and also improve the endocrine system, thyroid function and block DHT which is a derivative of testosterone. If that doesn't work, check your stress levels, if you're not stressed then try adding Saw Palmetto which helps block DHT or natural progesterone cream which helps lower testosterone and control PCOS symptoms...but I think that the vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids will help you alot so start with that.

Let me ask you a question Emmanuelle.....I just had surgery about 2 months ago and have been under huge amounts of stress......but the hair has been falling out in the past three weeks like crazy! Do you think the Saw Palmetto could have been causing this? I stopped taking it because I thought that maybe my testrone got too low and that was what was started making the hair to come out. What do you think it could be....It's driving me carzy! Everyday I look at these "new" little hairs peeking out but they seem a lot thinner that my regular hair.....I'm constantly praying about this everyday......I pray that it is just stress and that it will eventually grow back!!!

Persiangirl, low testosterone in women with PCOS is rare unless you are following some type of treatment that lowers your testosterone levels. Most women with PCOS have elevated testosterone and also elevated DHT ( dihydrotestosterone) which is a primary cause of hair loss. But since you've mentioned that you've been under a lot of stress, that could be the problem too. I don't think it's the Saw Palmetto since it acts as a DHT inhibitor so it's more likely to prevent hair loss than cause it but you never know...you can stop using it if you want and see if it changes anything. But like I said, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids can significantly reduce or even stop hair loss. The fatty acid GLA especially gives you beautiful, soft, shiny hair so it's something I would definately try. Give the supplements about 2 months and if you see no change then come back here and we'll suggest something else. Also, if stress is a big factor for you, try relaxation techniques and regular exercise to help calm you down.
