Default Sick on Spiro?

Hey Ladies! My Dr. gave me a prescription a few months ago for Spiro (My hair has been thinning for a while now and I am so fed up with it!). I took it the first day but had a really bad stomachache all day so I decided not to take it. I have reached the point though, where I am so devastated by my hair loss that I will try anything-- so last night I took it again before I went to sleep and have had a few stomach cramps in the night and this morning. Do these go away? Does anyone have a similar experience? I am aslo on Metformin 1000 mgs. a day and the Spiro is 100mgs. a day. Thanks!!

Also-- Should I ask my Dr. if I should be on 1500 mgs of Met instead of 1000?

jkandel03,

I have been on Spiro for over 3 years now and have not experienced any terrible side effects. I think I may remember having slight stomach aches and nausea when I first began but it was not enough to make me feel really ill or anything.

I would give it another shot if you can. It has been a wonder drug for me and my hair became far thicker and healthier than it has ever been before. Plus it cleared up my acne and excess facial/body hair and ingrown hairs too!

It can make you feel thirsty at first, so make sure you drink plenty of water.

Also, I began on a 50mg dose at first and then it was increased after a few weeks to 100mg. Why not try taking a lower dose until you get used to it? I think it should be taken with food, so don't take it on an empty stomach, preferably with breakfast, as if you take it at night you may be up peeing every hour!

Good luck with it

Ick, I'm sorry to hear this.I had migraines on spiro, I couldnt take it.

As far as your Met dosage goes, the research dosage is 2550mg/day - I think the dosage that is right for you can only be determined with blood work. To see if you are ovulating. And to see if your fasting insulin and testosterone levels go down.

I had the same problem when I started spiro about a month ago. I take 100mg twice a day. I was very nauseated. It went away in about a week. I also noticed that I had to eat something with it. I stuck with it though and I hope it works. I did notice that the acne has started to clear up. YEH! Lets hope the hair goes away.
