Default Side affect of Met?

It's been a long time since I have taken Met religiously and well since I have been taking it again I have been EXTREMELY sleepy and it's been a year since I ahve felt like this and I don't recall it being a side affect and to top it off I have experienced a few times a day "dizzy spells" this is a wierd feeling and with my WLS I should be having energy not sleepiness!!! This is very frustrating!

I was experiencing the same thing so I stopped Met last week. I had a severe dizzy spell a few weeks ago that scared the crap outta me. Since you had WLS and your insulin should be normal maybe the Metformin is lowering your blood sugar levels to much? Low blood sugar can cause the tiredness and dizziness.

I think it was the Met to be honest. I am not going to take it till my next appointment and discuss other options to get my cycles normal with the Weight loss I should be coming around withthe normal cycles we shall see...thanks ladies for answering!

I started metformin 2 days ago, and as of a couple of hours ago began feeling really dizzy, tired, and just 'off'

I didn't get a whole lot to eat today, so perhaps that is why. I just finished eating a slice of cheese pizza and am hoping soon I will feel more normal.

If this is a continuous side effect, I don't think I could tolerate this med for long. I'm hoping it was just from not enough food earlier today.

I find my worst is first thing in the morning when I am just finishing my shower. Sometimes I can make it out of the shower on time, but sometimes I have to sit in the shower for 10 mins to regain my composure as I get so dizzy that I almost pass out. I am on 1000 mg, and this is before I take my first dose of the day.

I am not over weight and I have very low blood pressure to begin with.

I just dont want to go off the metformin because I am getting regular cycles and it has (for the most part) controlled my hair loss.

Beyond the blood sugar issues, if you're experiencing fatigue and you're not already taking a multi-vitamin you should consider at least a vitamin b-12 supplement and maybe a mineral supplement like cal-mag-Vit D. Met decreases your ability to absorb certain vitamins and minerals and that can make you tired. I had fatigue but after I started taking some good supplements I feel way way better. There are several B-12 threads as well as info on Mag and Vit D deficiencies in PCOS women.

For the first few days of taking Met I had bad dizzy spells. The worst was when I tried to get out of the bath and my vision blacked! Scary! My mom called the doctor and she said dizziness and fatigue can be a normal side effect of Met alone, but can be exacerbated by not eating (nausea... bleh) and already low blood sugar. I helped me soooooo much to eat some complex carbs (cheat a bit on the diet I am on) and drink milk when it happened. Good luck
