Default Side effects.

Ok so i take my metformin with food and I don't feeeeel sick, but I do get...TMI!!!: Diarrhea. Unfortunately it comes like 3-4 hours I eat and only sometimes after I eat. I had chili earlier, probably not a good idea. But I just went to my night class(in college, and it makes things difficult). Well as soon as I sat down i needed to get out of there...and FAST. So I end up missing class, is there anyway around this?

Not really, unless you can avoid greasy, fatty, fried, rich, and/or spicy foods. Have you just started taking Met? I've found that I tolerate it better after I've been on it a while. If you've just started regular Met, you can split the tabs to slowly build up "immunity" to the GI effects of Met. Good luck with it, it does get better in time! Dianna

well it doesn't really seem to matter...like it's on a pill by pill basis. I've taken 500 for a few days and have moved up to 1000mg. The increase hasn't bothered me. However I took my first pill of the day with the chili(early lunch) and 3 to 4 hours later I am in the bathroom

So sometimes it really bothers you and then other times not so much? You might just need to figure it out through trial and error what foods seem to trigger an "episode". I was even more cautious with Met and started 250 (half a tab) then 500, then 750, then finally 1000.... It took me three weeks to get to the full dose, and I still had terrible GI s/e from the Met frequently enough to wonder if it was worth it. Those GI s/e's did settle down though and now I rarely ever get them. Best of luck! Dianna

LOL! Yep, it has been a godsend for me - Met (combined with a exercise program) and I've shed 20 lbs since July, with 20 more to go (slow and steady!). I really think it levels the playing field for cysters trying to lose weight!
