I just started on metformin today, and I'm starting at 500, working up to 2,000mg. I am having extreme metal taste in my mouth, which is of course a side effect. Anything I can do about this? I'm chewing on gum and it just tastes like metallic gum. I need to kill this taste.

Ugh..I remember that horrid taste well....it always tasted like I had been chewing on an aluminum can. Nothing I ate or drank took it away that I can recall, but I'm happy to report that within a month, it was gone for good.

I had that right when I first started taking Met.

I started at 500, but within a week it was gone.

I'm now on my 3rd day of 2000 mg and it has stayed gone, so far.

I hope it goes away for you, soon!
