Side effects of BP Med Tenorectic I just wanted to report some weird side effects of Tenoretic. This is a BP med containing atenolol (a beta blocker) and chlorthalidone (a diuretic). I had taken this med before I was diagnosed with PCOS, but my doctor changed my BP med to Hyzaar when I started taking Met. Anyways, I recently started taking Yaz and Spiro, and after about six months, the insurance company warned my doctor that taking these drugs in combo in Hyzaar could raise my potassium. Duh. I knew that. We were monitoring it every six months. Anyways he insisted I switch BP meds and put me back on Tenorectic. Within a few days I had to stop the Spiro because leg and foot cramps were driving me crazy at night. Then I started burping all the time and couldn't see my computer screen without reading glasses. The leg cramps were still happening too, just not as often. At my two week follow-up he took me off Tenorectic.
Lesson learned. Even if you've taken meds in the past they can cause side effects you've never experienced because of the combo with other meds or changes in your body chemistry. Don't be afraid to report side effects to your doctor. They may be more important than you think. |
