Hello all,
This is my first post on this board. I poked around some other posts but didn't see my questions answered, so I hope it's okay that I ask. Forgive me if they were asked previously.
I've got PCOS, I'm 29, never had regular periods my whole life, been trying to get pregnant since late 2000 without success. Did the Clomid thing and it made me really ill and I still suffer residual hot flashes, which totally sucks living in the desert.
Did the fertility clinic thing until they told us the price for IVF, and we ran scared. We don't have that kind of money.
I've been on Glucophage XR since the middle of the summer. My doc started me slowly and built me up to four 500mg pills a day.
I'm having trouble telling what's a side effect of this drug and what's summer heat exhaustion, stress, or whatever. So if any of you out there can advise, I'd appreciate it.
I've always had sleeping problems, most notably that I'm a night person and if I have to get up in the morning I feel crabby all day. But if I get up at noon and stay up until dawn, I'm mostly good. Only since the middle of the summer, I'm finding that even that sleep pattern is wonky. I often sleep for 15 hours at a time lately, then get up and drag my sorry butt all day needing more sleep!
I've been nauseous a few times and I know that that's a side effect of the Glucophage, but I'm also having weird eating problems. I used to crave fatty foods, but lately the thought of most fatty foods turns my stomach. And beyond that, I have days where all food is gross to me, even chocolate and other lifetime favourites. There are some days that I have to force myself to eat a bit of something utterly bland (ie Cheerios) just to eat something, because even though I'm having hunger pangs I just can't see food as anything other than disgusting.
Then, a couple of days later, I'll feel the need to eat constantly.
My desire for salty foods has gone through the roof. Now, living in a desert, part of that is normal during the summer...but this is nuts! I am not a big salt eater usually.
The good news is I actually had a period last month, and in the first two months I was on the drug (before the weird eating stuff happened), I lost 7 pounds without changing my diet or exercise or anything, and all of those bad numbers like cholesterol went way down.
So I think it's doing its job, but am I alone with these weirdo side effects?
