Default side effects going off pill??

I went off the pill a week ago because my husband and I plan to TTC starting next month. I don't know if it's coincidence or a withdrawal symptom but I've been absolutely exhausted and a little flu-like. My work out time has been cut in half and I've been falling asleep during the day, which is unusual for me. Is this typical for going off the pill? I feel like I've been hit with a ton of bricks, I'm so tired!

Good to know at least one other person had the same effects. I've been sleeping way more than normal and just tired throughout the day. I slept nearly 12 hours last night! Very unusual for me. Also, I went to a lunch gathering today and someone told me I looked tired.

How long did your symptoms last?

Unfortunately until I got on another pill. I was in the process of switching from one pill to another the two weeks that I stopped the first almost killed me. I literally slept for two weeks...it was AWFUL.

Now hopefully it subsides for you since you are ttc. Talk to your Dr though and see if there is anything that you can do.

I have a call in to my GYN about it. I don't think I could go a long time like this. I'm already sleepy today and I've only been up for 4 hours. I'll let you know if they say this is a "normal" occurance.

I spoke with my GYN's nurse and she said that being tired is not a typical symptom of going off the pill. She said that sometimes going off the pill can mess with your thyroid levels, if you previously had problems with it, making you tired. Personally, I have thyroid antibodies but I am not hypo/hyperthyroid, I get tested once a year to make sure it stays that way. So I'm going to wait a few more days and see how it goes, if I stay tired I'm calling my endo to make sure thyroid levels have not changed.

Also, she told me that she has patients call with all sorts of symptoms, like weight fluxuations, anxiety, moods, nausea, etc, after they go off the pill. She said they normally resolve by the end of 3 weeks or one menstral cycle. She said symptoms beyond time period are an indicator that something is going on that the birth control may have been masking previously.

No, I'm still wiped out, thanks for asking though. I find the feeling very similar to being on valium, but all day long. I called my endo just to see if they thought I should come in for a check up. They decided it was best if I did, so I'm seeing them Thursday. I REALLY hope this is not my thyroid "checking out", timing would be bad since my husband and I are trying to conceive very soon.

I'll let you know if the endo has any more to say about tiredness and going off pills.

I think we have a reason why going off the Pill makes someone (at least me) tired.

Got my labs back. My TSH came in at a wonderful 0.49, happy days. However, my iron is rock bottom with a saturation of 14% (normal is 15%-50%) and a ferritin level of 16 (ideal is 50).

The explanation for the severe fatigue was that the Pill helps women improve iron levels, once you are off it any iron deficiency is revealed. I have no idea why I'm iron deficient at this point but it's something my doc will look into in the future. Now I'm on 3 iron pills a day.

So, next time you go off the Pill and start to feel tired it might be a good idea to get your iron checked out, I had no idea the Pill affected iron so much!

When I got off the pill, I dramatically gained weight. Like 10 lbs a month! I just had to go back on the pill this week and I already feel the fluid going down.

That explanation about the iron makes sense. I am anemic anyway. So when I got off the pill it was a severe drop for me then...

Thanks for that info
