I'm afraid to work out!
I started out on 500 mg of Met with absolutely no problems. I've now been on 1000 mg for probably a month, and I get horrible diarrhea!! I know I should be working out, but I'm so afraid that I'll get on a machine and have to run for the bathroom after about 2 minutes! I already try to eat low fat/non greasy foods and take the met during a meal.
Any suggestions?
Hello! Have you seen a nutritionist? I've been on Met for a little over a month now, and although I haven't had horrible diarrhea, I was constantly nausious for weeks! My nutritionist helped me to pick out foods that would work for me. She suggested whole wheat/whole grains (no white pasta, bread, potatos), lots of veggies, protein with EVERY meal and snack (meat or nuts or peanut butter), and low sugar (natural is better if you have to have it).
If the diarrhea keeps up, you may want to talk to your doctor or meet with a nutritionist since changing what you eat might help a bit. Also, maybe you could get an exercise tape for the time being and work out from home? That way you'll at least be close to a toilet! Hope this helps a little! Good luck!

Oh I can so relate to this!! I've had terrible diahorrea too and Im too scared to even go for a walk as I will have to run back home to go to the loo!! I know I need to be exercising more, but I'm terrifed of being too far away from the toilet. Also, I find after spending hours being sick with diahorrea etc that I feel soooo weak, exercise just doesn't feel possible

Hey,
No, I haven't seen a nutritionist. I go to college a couple hours from where I go to the doctor. Unfortunately, it's a small college where we all live on campus and eat in the cafeteria which means greasy, fatty foods. I try to eat healthier but it's definitely really hard without all the food options I would buy if I was living alone.
As far as a workout video, I have a roommate with a small room...
Luckily, the weather's getting a little nicer so I can go for walks around campus where it's pretty easy to duck into bathrooms. haha
I'll be graduating in May so hopefully I'll be getting a new doctor and hopefully going to a nutritionist! I think that would be great for me!!
I completely know how you feel. I also live on campus and cafeteria food is the worst. Can you talk to a dining service manager or anything like that so they could make a special meal for you that would meet your dietary needs? The dining centers here allow for special meals for people who need them.
Also, good luck graduating in May. I'm graduating in May also, and I was just diagnosed this week. Finals is a horrible time to be diagnosed!
I completely understand! I lived on campus until graduating two years ago and there definitely weren't many choices! Maybe you could try to eat as much of the veggie and meat choices your cafeteria offers, and try to stay away from white bread, pasta, and sugar! I know, definitely easier said then done. Also, I think walks around campus sound like a great idea! I've been walking around my neighborhood as much as possible lately and I've been feeling so much better! Keep us updated on how things are going!

Thanks for all the posts. I got so busy with finals and graduation that I haven't had much time to get online!
I graduated a week ago and since then, my body has done a total 180. I'm living on my own, not really drinking alcohol at all, and preparing my own food (I'm soooo glad not to have to eat at the cafeteria anymore!). I've been taking met twice a day (1000 mg) with zero side effects. The last few weeks of classes, I stopped taking it because it was getting so bad. I've also started to eat WAY healthier.
I feel so much better about myself. Now, I feel like I can really focus on diet, exercise and becoming healthier. I really appreciate all the responses...hopefully, I can get back into the swing of things and start exercising again! Yay!!
Get Metformin Extended Release pills! Best thing I ever did.
