Red face Side effects with Yasmin? Do they get better???

Hi all,

I have just started taking Yasmin (3 weeks) and suffer from sore breasts, extreme increase in appetite (can't stop eating) leg cramps and mood swings.
Are they side effects that subside after a few months?? My doc has told me to stick it out for at least 3 months but I just don't think I can do it.. Has anyone here had the same sort of problems only for them to get better once their body adjusted to it??? I don't know if I should stop the pill or continue..I'm also taking Metformin 1500mg which my body seems to agree with..
Please share your thoughts and experiences with me..

Thank you

I never had any side effects when I started Yasmin except for a little nasuea. I would wait at least until you finish the first pack before you decide anything. All of the side effects you mentioned, I think, are listed under the section of possible side effects that should go away. In terms of leg cramps: Yasmin has 25 mg of Spironolactone in it. Spiro is a potassium sparing diaretic. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. This may help with the leg cramps.

Good luck!!!

I have been on Yasmin for 5 1/2 weeks. During the first month I had leg cramps and EXTREME fatigue and depression. I'd wake up after 10 hours and feel like I hadn't slept at all. I'd also start crying all the time for no reason. It was ridiculous, but I knew that I had to stick it out for at least three months to see if it would work for me or not. Now that I'm on my second pack, I'm not experiencing any of those symptoms at all, however, a couple days ago (a week after my last period) I've started spotting. I've read about other women having this problem so I'm not that worried about it. I'm assuming like the other side effects, this will go away as well. Also, before taking Yasmin I had a lot of acne and very very oily skin. Yasmin has caused my skin to be much less oily and although I still have scars, the acne is almost completely cleared up! So, I know the side effects can be difficult, but hang in there and give it the three months! You're not alone.

Thanks girls!!!!! Much appreciated. I hope it does get better.

Have you noticed a reduction in hair while taking Yasmin? My acne is getting much better already however haven't seen a difference with the hair.

Big kisses to all!!!

I took yasmin for a year or so and never had any s/e. I do think it helped with my hair loss.

I haven't noticed a reduction in the amount of hair, however, I've noticed that the few stray hairs on my chin, neck, chest, and stomach seem to be growing thinner and less coarse. ???

Hey,
I was taking Yasim about when I was first diagnosed with PCOS. The medication didnt agree with my body at all! I suffered from severe mood swings and eventually stopped taking it because it was effecting my body (tender breats, pains in my ovaries, etcc...) Like someone said perhaps the side effects will decrease, because I had been taking mine close to two months and it they continued. Right now I am taking BCP's and they seem to be agreeing with my body.
Best of luck.

When I was on Yasmin I thought I was pregnant-- Literally. Sore breasts, nausea in the morning, edema in my legs and hands, cranky (okay that is a MAJOR understatement, I was psychotic), crying all the time (especially at work), and so on. It got so bad that my workplace told me that I needed to fix sometime or get packing. So I made an urgent trip to my doctor and switched to low-estrol. It is a low estrogen pill that seems to be doing alright, though this month I had no period--- well, a little spotting. Anyway, in my experiance if the pill is really making you miserable CHANGE it-- no sense living with symptoms you can't stand.

Yep I had those too-- almost like migraines. I stopped that pill and the headaches have pretty much gone away.

At least you haven't got much longer on them!!! My doc wanted me to finish out the pill pack I was on before she switched me, for obvious reasons so I did. I hope September goes well for you!!

i'm so glad that i just have one more month...i keep telling myself that the end is near and i'm doing this for a reason...ALL FOR A BABY! ALL FOR A BABY. that has become the motto i keep repeating on a bad day!

I just restarted Yasmin after being off of it for 9 months. I am on my 2nd pack of pills, and for the first month, I definitely noticed sore breasts. Almost so tender that I couldnt sleep on my stomach. I have also noticed significantly decrease scalp shedding.

Make sure you've specified the leg cramps to your doc, as that can be one of the symptoms of a blood clot in your leg, which is extremely serious and a possible side effect of any BCP.

I'm two weeks into my second pack and haven't been having any bad side effects, except at first extreme nausea and moodiness, which went away after a couple weeks. I did have the heaviest period of my entire life though after my first pack which was wayyyy far from fun...but, hopefully it will get better. Good luck!
