It's been quite some time since I've posted here, but naturally as soon as I run into a challenge I come running back!
So Valarie (my 14 year old) has IR PCOS and has been on Metformin. She's on 1500mg 1x a day.
We have been taking her labs about every month or so to check her insulin. It's been 'okay' but would like to have seen it lower. The lowest we ever got it was 8, and that was at the beginning of treatment. Recently the last result was 15, which is clinically still fine, though it's supposed to be below 10. So last week we drew and it was 45!!!! That's higher than it was even before she started meds!!!!!!
Also, on her last draw they did a liver check and one of the values came back high. They were supposed to run it again but the lab misread the order so she'll have to go back in for it. @@
I wish there was someone here I could take her to. We're in Sacramento Ca and though I'd love to take her to UC Davis, it's not an option due to UC Davis procedure. I hate all the 'not knowing' that goes on with this problem, and just wish she could get some stinking stability!!

I'm sorry your daughter is going through this, but glad she was dxed when she was. I hope you can get her IR under control. There is a teen section here she might be interested in.

We live 10 minutes away, what medical plan do you have. Which doctor are you going to? Maybe I could recommend some one else in you plan that I know that would be more helpful.

It is called Janumet
It has both sitagliptin and metformin
It also comes in just sitagliptin.(Januvia)
I take Januvia 100mg in the moring and Janumet at night.
The ingrediant in Januvia keeps me awake and the Janumet combo makes me sleepy. So I have broke it done so I can sleep at night and stay awake during the day.
When I first started the Janumet, I had the same potty probs because I was to take it 2 x's a day. With my work, I just couldn't run when needed so I was switched to just the Januvia. But at 2 x's a day, it had me so wired up I felt almost like I was on speed.
That is how I ended on the 2 variations.
Now I stay awake during the day and sleep at night!!
I have not had any dizzy spells or the "bad" potty problems.
It has made a great difference.
I go next week for follow up blood work.

Which symptoms has it helped with other than IR? I was thinking of asking my doc to up my Met. dose (I'm on 1500 a day), but I wonder if Januvia or Janumet would help my hairloss/hairgrowth and weight gain.
