Hi, Sam! So, I'm not from the UK but was reading your post and thought I would send a short reply. My regular gynecologist referred me to a fertility specialist my continued resistance to Clomid. They can only prescribe so many fertility medications. That's where the Fertility Specialist (Reproductive Endocrinologist) comes into the picture. They can do so many various treatments to assist you in conception. Also, they deal with male infertility issues as well as female. The majority of female patients at most Fertility Centers are PCOS women. But again, the largest and most definable difference is that they can go above and beyond what a gynecologist can do in order to help you conceive a child. I hope that helps!
