Hi Pam,
Thanks for inquiring... we are making some progress, but it is pretty slow. The pediatrician was not too concerned and advised me to keep giving him lots of formula until he felt ready to conquer table food and texture. I am pretty sure that the problems are being compounded by the fact that he is teething pretty hard and has now started to get his one year old molars!
I tried to get him to eat some cheese today, but it did not work out... nor did banana pieces, peeled grapes or toast. So, for now, we are sticking with the pureed food and not getting him distressed about food...
I should add to this discussion that overall Alex received excellent care at this baby home and other than the slight problem with adjusting to new foods he is a happy, healthy outgoing baby. The caregivers genuinely loved the babies and did their best for them... he had baby massage once per week by a qualified massage therapist, he went to "sensory stimulation" classes 2X per week in a special sensory integration room, they had "music classes" starting at 6 weeks of age, went outside for walks regularly and the ratio of caregivers to babies was usually 3:1 or 4:1 at all times. The baby home was less than 10 years old, very clean and well staffed. I have no complaints about his baby home or how we was treated. In fact, here is photo of 3 of his caregivers saying good-bye -- you can see the affection on their faces!
Anyhow, we will keep working away with him and I am sure this will be overcome soon. He has gained 1.2 pounds since arriving home 6 weeks ago and grown half an inch, so he is doing well...
I will keep you updated...
Janie
