Angry Skin fungal infections long after Augmentin?

Well I'm enduring my 2nd yeast infection "down there" in five weeks. I was on Augmentin in December and believe that this triggered the fungal activity. Being overweight and IR doesn't help, of course. Still, I do not have a history of these infections. I didn't even realize how bad it had gotten...was just getting some itching and burning in the vicinity and decided to find a mirror and take a look. Oh my!

I put on some topical antifungal last night (helped a little) and called dr. today; I'll be starting Diflucan this afternoon. Right now I can't even put on underwear and skin is VERY red, irritated. I'm stuck at home on a Saturday now. I've been washing gently during showers and using a hairdryer set on Cold to get everything dry afterwards. Any other suggestions for helping get this cleared up?

Oof, those suck! I was just on Biaxin for bronchitis and got some nasty fungal infection under the ol' boobs. Antibiotics can knock out your normal bacterial flora that usually keep your normal fungus in check. When the bacteria is low, the fungus goes nutso and so do you. I hope that you aren't having trouble any more, but next time you are on an antibiotic, eat yogurt or take some bacteria pills. These can help repopulate your body. I wouldn't wash with a deodorant soap while having problems, either. Just plain stuff or something really gentle like baby shampoo. It really helps. I was on tetracycline for acne for a few years and I often got fungal infections. One thing that I like to take is in the dairy section of some Wal-Marts. They are called Bio-Salud and they are small strawberry shots. They are really tasty and cheap. Something like five for 88 cents. They are a good way to get the good bacteria you need.

Thanks, I do take a combination probiotic pearl every day. I guess my body is just a good breeding ground for the fungus. I'm eating a balanced diet and am treated for my insulin resistance, too. The really bad infection (from Feb.) went away, however I'm presently on nystatin powder to control a new infection that had just started. It is already better. Oddly enough I used to get the fungal thing under my breasts, but neither time this year has it spread to that location.
