Question Skin tab removal

I have a skin tab that bothers me on my neck - only bothers from the "look" of it - I don't feel it or anything. There is a 2 1/2 year old at our church that when I hold her she plays with it (ick!!).

I am wanting to remove it.

Do I cut it off myself (I don't know if I COULD - I have a hard enough time poking myself when I test my sugar!) or go to the doctor?

Does it hurt? Does it bleed? Does it grow back!?

Thanks!

My mom had a friend that got a bunch removed. The doctor started by 'burning' them off, then just cut some off. The ones that were cut off took forever to heal and left marks. The ones that were 'burned' up the right way healed up quicker and nicer.

I guess it depends how big it is and such.

go to a dermatologist they will numb it and then snip or cut them off. I usually have to go in every 9 to 12 months. They bleed but just for a bit. I would not recomend cutting them of yourselves, DH did that and his got infected.

I went to the dermatologist to have several skin tags removed from my neck.
I was very specific about what they were and that they were all on my neck when I made the appointment.

When I get there, the doctor said he will not remove any skin tags from the neck area. He told me, "go home and cut them off with scissors, they are going to bleed a lot so be ready." Those were his exact words.

I was so pissed off.

I ended up going to a salon that does the lamprobe laser treatments
and they removed them all.
It was relatively painless and they healed really quickly.
It looked and felt like a sunburn for a couple days.
Then my neck was smooth and no scars.

About 14 years ago I went to my dermatologist, who has since retired, and he removed several from my neck. That was painful. I had to have numbing shots into my neck before the cutting began, and then some of them needed stitches.

I would rather have the laser treatment anyday.

Funny you should ask this.

I just removed a couple of mine the other day.

A good pair of tweezers, some rubbing alcohol and sharp toenail clippers. The one has healed nicely, the other is still noticeable. Numb them with ice.

I mentioned that I did this to a coworker and she then turned around and did the same to her (hers were a little bigger then mine) and she also had great success with that.

It is all up to you though, but after a while I am like I cant take these things anymore. KWIM?

It doesnt hurt other then when I get my "actual" skin pinched in the clippers.

I've done a few on my side boob with just some sharp toenail clippers...didn't really notice any blood and it didn't really hurt. I've got a few more that are a little bigger that I need to get but I've not mustered up the courage to get those yet! I'm such a chicken. lol

I had my husband cut them off with sterilized toe nail clippers. It did hurt, but not enough to keep me from continuing on to do the rest. One in particular didn't seem to want to stop bleeding, but it eventually stopped.

We did at least two around each underarm, one on each breast, and one on my neck.

Some advice: Do not yank the skin tag off. Just keep squeezing the clippers until it's finally cut all the way through.

Also, make sure you've only clipped the skin tag and not other skin around it. Made this mistake and now have a 1/2 inch scar under my arm. (Hubby also yanked on this one, hence my earlier advice of no yanking. Not only did he get the tag, but the skin around it.)

I had one that sort of bubbled out and got huge that I ignored for years. It was on my thigh and some how wound up getting it's own blood supply. By the time I seen the dr for it, it was about a 1/4" round and stuck out about an inch and was held there by a thin chunk of skin. I had no idea what it was. She said that she could freeze it off, but that would cost about $300, instead she suggested that we used fish line to tie it off, and add a fresh piece every two days. After doing this for a week, it finally fell off.

Now I don't ignore them anymore. I numb the area with ice and if I can reach it, clip it off with toe nail clippers myself or ask for dh's help.

After reading one of those "home/natural remedy" sites, I thought what the heck. Applied tincture of iodine to the spot 3x daily, for a few days and it dried right up and fell off.

I think I am going to try the Iodine idea. I am too scared to cut them off myself. Ack! You girls sure are brave.

I had one on my neck (right where the seatbelt hits). I had gone on a trip and was in the car for days...that skin tag got soo big from being constantly irritated for days on end. I eventually went in to the dr for another reason, and while I was there, had them remove it. they numbed the area and snipped it off...no big deal, only a drop of blood, and I have a tiny scar, but then, the base of it was very small...like a teardrop with the tip facing the skin. the ones that may bleed more are probably the ones with a wider base, which I do have one of and I'm afraid to have it removed...I may have to try that iodine treatment on that one.

Default Skin Tab Removal

Poppin75,

Please explain how you tie a skin tag with a piece of cotton. Do you mean you take a piece of sewing thread and tie it?? This idea sounds pretty cool.

I have yet to try the Iodine idea but I will probably do it this weekend.

Sorry, yes, sewing thread. That's what I've done for ages, and some Doctors here suggest doing it that way - I've seen it on tv as well!! Its totally painless, but just a bit tricky if you have one in an awkward place. Give it 5 days max and it should be gone. Just make sure the thread is tight around the base of the tag.
