I have never had this problem before, but I've heard others with PCOS report it. I am getting skin tags (I think that's what they're called - those tiny little flaps of skin that stick up?) quite a bit now. I have a large patch of them on the front of my shoulder and have a few on my neck as well.
What causes these and what can I do to get rid of them? They're driving me crazy!
TIA
~Rachel

Not sure exactly what causes them but I got mine removed by my doctor, he used a small pair of very sharp scissors and I didnt feel a thing. Only thing is that they can come back.
Skin tags are usually related to being insulin resistant, I've been told.
I don't have any-- I've been "blessed" w/ other PCOS problems instead-- so I don't know much about how they get rid of them.
Good luck
Hugs

I've got quiet a few of them ~ mainly on my chest and then 1 on my chin. My h2b has one on his arm and on the inside of his leg ~ both of us are IR however, i take meds and he doesn't.
I've nipped the one on my chin off with my nails, but the little sucker bled for ages + it's grown back . I'm planning on asking my GP to either freeze them off or cut them - but since i've got so many i'm scared it might hurt! Plus i need to do it during the next 2-3 months as i'm getting married in 4 months and i don't want to see the tags on my wedding pics.
Check out these links as well - i'm sure they'll have some usefull info.

~I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once~
I actually get them around my eyelid, and I had my dermatologist remove them so I wouldn't poke my eye out, lol. It hurt for a little bit, but it healed up really nicely and it looks like it was never there!!
I have them, my mum has them... I think my sister probably has them. You can get them removed. I haven't had mine done yet - but probably would if they bothered me that much. I got them on my neck and under my arm - the ones under my arm bother me more than my neck for some reason - probably because they are a bit bigger... not massive or anything. I have had them for a long time, since my teens in fact and I never realised they could be connected to PCOS till I came on SC.

I had a couple of bigger ones, my doctor injected anaesthetic into them and then cauterized them after cutting them off with the sharp scissors as they bled a bit. Still I didnt feel anything, even in the ones without anaesthetic.
Sophie,
I haven't had skin tags removed but when you were talking about freezing them it reminded me of having a mole frozen off. I was so nervous about it hurting. My dr. said it would sting a little, but he promised me it wouldn't be very painful. And he was right! It only stung a little bit, not even as much as when I'd had numbing shots before I got stitches. After the treatment the skin formed a blister and eventually fell off. I didn't think the blister was painful, just kind of irritated because the place he froze was on my bra line.
Of course this was just one spot so I'm not sure how different it would feel if you had more than one spot frozen on the same day.
Hope this helps and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Hugs
Jenny

I must say that when I first joined this site I didn't know what a skin tag was, and frankly was happy I didn't. Last week i got this little tiny (what I that was a pimple) on my inner thigh. Know its a little bigger and it flaps in and out (it the size if this o, maybe a little bigger) Is this a skin tag? I got jinx It's only one, but it is uncomfortable especially in the area it's at. It gets saught in my body sponge (chills!!!!!!) lol.

Well, it sounds like yours are worse than mine. Mine are pretty tiny. I don't think anyone would notice them but me. But, the ones on my shoulder are all together and I don't like how rough my skin is there.
I'll check out those links.

Sandra, that sounds like a skin tag. I've got a zillion of them on my inner thighs.
They ARE related to insulin resistance, which is why so many of us get them. Met can help prevent new ones. The ones you have now can either be frozen or nipped off. DO NOT try to do it yourself - I had one under my arm that I froze off with one of the new wart remover things, and now it's a sunken in scar that seems to grab deodorant and sweat. It's constantly swollen and gross. Now I need to pay the doc to remove it, anyway.
I have two under my other arm, and one on my eyelid that I need to have removed, too.

I have three on my eyelid. Two are just small bumps and one is much bigger and noticeable. I didn't think they were removable since the eyelid skin is so thin. Where exactly were yours?
My boss used to have one right on the edge of his eyelid, in among his eyelashes. They burned his off with some solution, but I doubted that would work considering where mine are located.
I had three removed, one was on my brow bone right above the crease, and two were actually on my eyelids, right below the crease. It's been nice to have a smooth surface to just sweep on my eyeshadow now! Like I said, it pinches for a bit, but it happens so fast and they are gone with minimal bleeding. I too have very thin eyelids so I don't think it's a problems as long as you have a dermatologist do it who can cut at the right angle.
I was born in Rochester btw, it's been a while since I have been up there, but I miss living up north, *sigh*
I got a skin tag under my left armpit when I was 14. I never thought anything about it until I started nursing school and we were doing a rotation through the OR, and here they were removing skin tags off of this older lady. (She had lots and lots, like maybe 50, that's why she was in the OR) The surgeon told me and another student they are usually caused by insulin related problems. I started to wonder then, but didn't get diagnosed with PCOS for another 5 mos. afterward. It is pretty common in PCOS actually. They can be removed pretty easily, but may grow back. As VivC mentioned, Met can help.
