Hi, I was wondering if anyone had the problem of skin tags around their neck? I have always had what I thought to be beauty marks, but they have since started to grow. I think that the growth has something to do with my hormones. I have started taking met again, but it makes me feel ill and very tired. Do you think that I should see a dermotologist?
They're pretty much benign, but I know they're no fun to have around. I tend to ask my doc if she'll snip them off whenever I go in for my annual.
I've actually had two different docs remove them. One cauterized the big ones I had (I had a HUGE one under my armpit...had it there for years, and it was probably the size of a couple of grains of rice stuck together)...that one hurt to have removed, but only because it was so big. The other ones that were small enough she snipped off with a pair of cuticle scissors after disinfecting the area. The next time I had it done was with a different doc, and she cauterized them all (and since they were still pretty small they didn't hurt as much).
Oh, forgot to add: when she snipped them with the scissors, it didn't hurt at all. She used a pair of tweezers to pull the tag and snipped at the very base of it. I've tried doing this on my own, but usually it's at such an awkward angle that I can't position my hands correctly (that's why I had another doc remove them the next time I had an appointment). They often aren't covered by insurance, though, since it's seen as "cosmetic" rather than necessary, but my doc was able to word the claim so that it was covered by my insurance.

Hmmm, I didn't know I could have them removed. I have one near my armpit that is rather large... sucks in the summer when I wan to wear a sleeveless shirt, I am very self concious about it. Will look into this! Thanks!

Hi, I have skin tags and moles as well, and at the moment, my neck itches in the skin folds, when I am on my tablets everything settles down but when I stop for a rest everything flares up again, so good luck, I never got on with Mets, the only thing that works for me is Cyropterone Acetate (androcur)
Forgot to add that the actual cauterizing creates a, shall we say, not entirely pleasant odor since, you know, you're basically burning your flesh. Depending on the size, a topical anaesthetic can be used, but for the bigger ones I did have to have something injected into them before the cauterizing, and that did hurt a bit. It's kind of a sharp sting, but it doesn't last long.
Again, depending on the size, you may have a tender spot for a day or so. The ones I had on my neck were covered by small bandaids (those little tiny round ones) for about a day. The big one under my armpit meant foregoing deodorant for a few days, and the scab took a few more days to fall off, but I feel a lot better about myself without them.
Now if I could just keep them from coming back.

I have small ones that are around my neck and near my eye, the ones located on my neck itch from time to time as well. My moles are about the size of poppy seeds on my neck, but the ones on my face are even smaller, and I don't want any of them to become larger. Nice to know that someone else out there understands, thought I was paranoid there for a while.
