I guess we all know about the link they've made between PCOS and Sleep Apnea. Well, I just went through a sleep study last week and they called me today and said I have severe sleep apnea..I stop breathing 41 times in an HOUR!!!!!!!!!! That's almost every minute! ACK! No wonder I feel like total crap more and more every day!
I go in tonight to get fitted for the c-pap machine thing, oh joy, but hey, if I end up feeling better I don't care!
Please, if any of you are feeling worse than normal LOL check into this. I am so glad my doctor made the connection.

I had a co-worker with severe sleep apnea, and he said that getting a c-pap literally changed his life (for the better). He said he absolutely couldn't imagine living without it.

I was fitted four years ago for my CPAP/full face mask... and it really did change my life. My situation was quite severe too- I would venture to guess that stopping breathing just one time is pretty aweful. In my situation I knew my father had it... and literally as soon as I was diagnosed with sleep apnea.. the dr took one look at my husband and suggested an evaluation as well- we both say goodnight now through our face masks lol
I hear alot of stories where people just cannot handle having their faces/noses covered by CPAP masks... if there is one bit of advice I'd give you... is do not give up! It HAS changed our lives... and although in the beginning it was hard to get used too- I hung in there and it feels great to get a restful night's sleep.
I am too nervous to go have the sleep test done. Even though I have no problem being poked and prodded to have a baby, it is just the thought of being hooked up to all the machines and being watched while sleeping. Knowing my luck I wont fall asleep and the whole night will be a bust!

The way my sleep clinic conducted the sleep study was booking two nights with the idea that if they couldn't gather enough info on the first night (for whatever reason) you'd be ready to go night #2. I didn't have a restful night at all during my study but apparently they got what they needed so I didn't have to return a second time.
Coincidentally, I * just * got a call from the sleep clinic telling me I need to come in and have a visit with the dr. According to my insurance I am entitled to replacement parts every three months (mask, tubing, filter)... I go in on May 12-
To anyone reading this thread.. I highly recommend the little bit of inconvenience with a sleep study and dr appt... you'll have restful sleep like you've only imagined.
My dh has a cpap and he's resisting it... even though I know and he "knows" that it will be good for him. I can tell when he's kept it on all night, he's so much more alert and dare I say... happy??? [snicker... he's always crabby lately!]
I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea in December 06'. It was hard at first sleeping with the CPAP mask on all night, especially because I'm claustrophobic. It took time to get used to but it's been over a year and I feel weird without the machine. I sleep so well with it. It literally saves lives! If you have the option to get fitted for the nasal mask instead of the full mask, I would suggest you to do so. It's less bulky and easier to sleep with. Good Luck!
I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea in sept '07. I stopped breath 69 times an hour and my oxgyen level when down to 58%. No wonder I had such brain fog and slept all the time. Anyway CPAP therapy has made a difference. I won't even take a nap without it. Of course I don't need naps as often since I have been using cpap. It really does change your life for the better!!!
