Default Sleep Apnea sufferers

Hello everyone. I'm fairly new to this site and have really enjoyed reading several of the messages on this board. But I have a question that I haven't yet come across. Is Sleep Apnea a condition that can be caused from PCOS. I was diagnosed in 07' when I kept falling asleep at work. My DR told me that having my tonsils removed may not cure it. Has anyone had theirs removed to cure Sleep Apnea? If so, did it help?

Diagnosed with PCOS: 92'
On 500mg 2x a day-METXR: since Sept 07'
(plenty of bathroom visits in the beginning but has helped with AF visits)

Sleep condition may increase risk for diabetes in women with PCOS

Women with PCOS who suffer from sleep apnea, a condition characterized by periods of halted breathing during sleep, may be at greater risk for developing diabetes, according to new research. The new findings give doctors another way to identify women who are at risk for developing diabetes as a result of PCOS.

Researchers already know that women with PCOS are at a higher risk for developing sleep apnea and that sleep apnea is linked to insulin resistance. However, Dr. Esra Tasali and researchers at the University of Chicago, sought to determine the relationship between hyperinsulinemia, a pre-diabetes condition when the blood sugar control system does not work properly body mass index (BMI) and risk for sleep apnea in women with PCOS.

The researchers screened forty women with PCOS through a survey that asked about snoring, daytime sleepiness, hypertension and BMI. They found that 75 percent of the women were at high risk for sleep apnea. Additionally, they found that the patients at high risk for sleep apnea had higher fasting insulin levels. Researchers also found a link between degree of obesity and fasting insulin levels in the high risk group.

"Sleep apnea appears to increase the incidence of hyperinsulinemia in women with PCOS. These findings indicate that women with PCOS who suffer from sleep apnea should be closely monitored for the development of diabetes," notes Dr. Tasali.

I had my tonsils removed in Dec of 05 . I get this weird thing where I stop breathing right as I fall asleep and sometimes it'll go so long that my hands tingle and I wake up gasping for air. I dunno if thats the same thing but its odd and scary as hell

oh my gosh, this pcos co-morbidity stuff has my head spinning. i was diagnosed with sleep apnea during college & had my tonsils removed. it stopped my snoring but i still get sleepy whenever i sit still too long (that includes driving, boring meetings, and grad school lol).

when i get some time i need to read up on the articles & discussions here. i was going through all this 10 years before i was ever diagnosed with pcos. the dermatologist said that the AN was just due to my ethnic background and hormones and my hairstylist said that some people's hair just "changes" for no apparent reason (i grew up with bone-straight hair and it became curly during college). AF was unpredictable so the nurse-practioner put me on the pill to make things more manageable. the tell-tale signs were evident back then, i just had no idea that they were all related!

I think I was having apneic episodes at the end of my pregnancy and for a couple of months after. I would wake up coughing. I'm okay now but those episodes are scary.
