Default Sleep Problems?

I have been wondering if anyone out there is having trouble with their sleep. Insomnia or sleep disorders? I was at University of Chicago Hospital recently and they were asking for volunteers who had PCOS and sleep issues. I know I definitely have them, and it can be so frustrating! I didn't volunteer cuz I am TTC. But it got me thinking about it and wondered if I could ask here and see what types of problems people are having. I have "abnormal sleep starts". What do you have?

I have not been officially diagnoses with PCOS yet, but am being worked up for it. I have been having problems falling asleep and staying asleep for the past few month. I almost feel anxious. I don't know if this is related in any way or not, but it is annoying.

I definitely have issues sleeping. My doctor suggested a couple supplements that definitely help me fall asleep, but staying asleep is something else entirely. I have to admit, there are some days I'd really love to box this PCOS stuff up and ship it back to wherever it came from!

I, too, have a horrible time sleeping. I can't fall asleep at a normal time no matter how tired I am. Right now it is 1:54am... I want to sleep. But i can't. And if i could, i wouldn't be able to stay asleep very long. I agree with onyxxtear - i'd pack it up and ship it away if i could

I am exactly like PlanetChar. I have a hard time sleeping even when I am exhausted, and staying asleep...wake up many times, or never feel rested when I do wake the following morning....it's 2:30am and I woke up. I have Pcos (1998) and Fibromyalgia (2006) and ttc #1 since 2007.

I have always had trouble sleeping. My body sleeps when it wants to and *only* when it wants to. I started a day job back in January for the first time, I have to be awake at 7am, which I know, it could be worse, but I have trouble sleeping earlier than midnight, and that's on a good day. By the time the weekend comes I am sleeping for 12 hours or more just to "catch up" although I know there is no such thing. I luckily do not wake up anymore like I used to, but I can't remember a time when I had a good nights sleep. -sigh-

I have normal/good sleep. However, I thought I read something about "sleep apnea" being commonly associated with PCOS. Also, adrenaline is a hormone, and anytime one hormone is off balance, others will follow. That might have something to do with it.

I have a horrible time getting to sleep at a reasonable hour. It is very rare that I am asleep before midnight. Even when I am deadbeat, dog-tired, feel like I could pass out, didn't sleep AT ALL the night before, I CANNOT fall asleep. Most nights I am asleep between 3-4:30am.

Even when I fall asleep, I wake up 2-3 times a night. When I wake up, I often have troubles going right back to sleep. When I was in school and working an early morning job, I was a ZOMBIE.

Also, my environment has to be set up very specifically to sleep. No bright street lights, no noise, no lights on in other rooms. Sheets have to be draped over me a certain way. I can only sleep on my tummy with my left leg bent, and my right leg straight. Any fluctuations in temperature, position, smells, lighting or other variables and my night's sleep is shot. I did not become princess and the pea until my PCOS set in.

I used to be able to sleep anytime, anywhere, deeply, and refreshingly as a teen. I miss those days.

Yes ma'am, I def have trouble sleeping. My internist had me do the home test for sleep apnea but the results were negative. However, he did say that even a negative result can still be positive, esp in PCOS women. He also mentioned the study and asked if I was interested, which I am not. My sleep issues seem to come in spurts, I'll go a few months sleeping great, then have issues for a few months. I sometimes take Ambien CR when the fllares ups are too bad, but I try not to take it b/c I feel like I'm always taking something!! Falling & staying asleep seems to be my most prevelant problem, it is so frustrating. Anyway, my internist believes that sleep disturbances contribute to hormonal imbalnces which influence everything from blood pressure to IR to PCOS, etc. I asked my RE his toughts & he totally agrees. I'm really glad both of my docs are progressive & keep up to date with these issues!

It seems almost impossible for me to fall asleep before midnight as well, no matter what I do. Ive tried taking anything for sleep including nyquil and I'll fall asleep, but I'll be up again in about three hours. its a pain!

I have always had trouble sleeping. It takes me a while to fall asleep and I wake up several times a night from being such a light sleeper.

I agree with jessietex and her doctors. I think it's linked to hormonal imbalance. Since I've been on Metformin and Provera, my sleeping has gotten much better. I sleep more deeply and feel more rested when I wake up in the morning.

Sometimes I have a hard time falling asleep because I feel very anxious at night and have panic attacks. Other times I can fall asleep fast but then I wake up a few times during the night. I try to force myself to fall asleep but if I didn't have to work I would probably be up all hours of the night.

Meggowiggle,

That is so crazy b/c the way you sleep is EXACTLY the way I sleep with my left leg bent and my right leg straight on my tummy. My husband thinks it is weird but it is the only way I can fall asleep.
