Anyone else experiencing feeling really tired throughout the day but not being able to fall asleep at night and take an AD? I just started Celexa 20mg 4 days ago and since then I have been soooo tired throughout the day, yawning like crazy and can barely keep my eyes open, but as soon as I get in bed for the night it takes forever (hours) to fall asleep and then I have been waking up 2-3 hours after finally falling asleep and not being able to go back to sleep, so I end up just laying there until morning. I have always had trouble falling asleep but once asleep I usually stayed asleep all night and felt well rested in the morning. Just wondering if anyone else is going through this and how long did it last??? TIA

One of my main reasons for getting AD help was that I couldn't sleep at night. My mind wouldn't turn off!! It would just keep me awake...all I would feel is anxiety!!
My doctor put me on Trazadone at bedtime. After 20 mins I would go into a deep sleep. I used it for 4 years and recently got off it. It worked for me.
You might want to talk with your doctor about what time you take your AD meds. If it is close to bedtime, it can cause restlessness. I had to switch my med taking time to first thing in the AM.
On the other hand, I take my Meds at night. Celexa doesn't cause insomia but it has caused bad dreams for me and a friend of mine. My doctor had increased me to 40mg for 20mg and I was getting really bad side effects (bad dreams/restless sleep, leg shaking-day and night-, weight gain, ect. I have lowered my dosage to 20mg and the leg shaking is gone and the dreams aren't as bad. I think the dreams will clear up in a few weeks. My husband does mind my snoring but the leg shaking in my sleep was driving him absolutly nuts.
I've never been on Celexa, but with a few of the ADs that I've taken--namely Wellbutrin--they've told me to take them in the morning, because some of them can have that "upper" effect, and if you take it too close to bedtime, it can interfere with sleep.
When I was on Wellbutrin, I took it first thing in the morning (I'm not on it anymore, because my CNP thought it was making me irritable instead of perking me up). I take Lamictal, which I break into two doses--one first thing in the morning and one around dinnertime. I also take Effexor, and I take that one with lunch.
However, I do also take two meds for sleep--Ambien and Klonopin. I should wean off of one and/or both, but with the bipolar, it's difficult for me to slow down and stop thinking enough to sleep, so I continue to take them.
When I first presented my sleep issues to my GP, she prescribed a sleep med right away, after finding out that I was on Zoloft at the time, so I think sleep problems are commons with ADs!

Is Celexa the generic to Lexapro? If so I was on Lexapro for about a year and it made me soooo tired!! I was like a walking zombie - I just couldnt deal with it anymore, being exhausted and tried all the time. I finally talked to my doctor and he switched me to a different antidepressent and it has worked great!!!! No more zomie for me!! I have heard alot of complains about lexapro causing drowsiness. I would talk to your doctor about it and maybe get on a different medication! Good Luck!!
