Default Slow follicles

Hello all. I'm just feeling a bit frustrated.

Little background on me - I've been diagnosed with PCOS as a teen and always had irregular periods. Have been seeing my RE since June and this is currently my third month of clomid. 50mg did nothing, 100mg I got one mature follicle way late (day 20 - bfn) and then I had to take a break cycle because my RE thought my LH was too high. So I went on metformin xr and bc pills. Now I'm back on 100mg of clomid again and in my last scan on day 17 the biggest follicle I had was 8mm. They are giving me until friday to see if it will grow more (day 21). I'm just so sick of having to wait so long in my cycle to see if anything will happen and only having one tiny follicle. Anyone have similar experiences? I'm wondering if I need a higher dose of clomid, if clomid isn't the drug for me, or if I just have some sort of issue with my follicles and everything being so slow.

I also have slow growing follicles and when I was on Femara, they grew at about the rate yours are growing. However once I switched to an injectible drug (Repronex) they have grown much faster. They are still on the slow side but on my CD 8 ultrasound this morning I had two at 12 and one at 14 when in the past they would have only been half that. So you may want to talk to your RE about adding or even switching to an injectible drug like Follistim or Repronex. Just a thought!!

Good luck!!

That is so exciting to hear that your follies are growing faster. I will probably move to injectables after I am done with clomid. I'm not sure if I will have one more clomid cycle or not. Guess it's up to what my RE thinks. I have heard many people who have had good results from it. It's just more invasive and I'm a bit nervous. What do you think of the femara? I had a friend suggest it instead of clomid, but I wasn't sure what the main differences between the two are.

I was MUCH happier on the Femara than I was on Clomid. Mainly because the Clomid made me absolutely psychotic. Like... I literally threw a package of frozen chicken breasts at my husband in the grocery store. Femara also leaves your system much faster than Clomid which is another reason for the lesser side effects, I think.

While I didn't actually get pregnant on Femara, I did have lots of improvements in my cycles and my follicles. I did ovulate while on it also. Studies have shown that it can be more effective on PCOS patients but I'm not sure of the science behind that.

But don't just leave it up to your RE. Do some research and make suggestions. Be an active advocate for your quest to become pregnant. If you would like to try a specific course of treatment, gather the information and ask your RE about it. Don't just wait and see what your doctor wants to do next.

As far as the invasive-ness of injectibles, it doesn't really bother me. And the side effects are STILL (to me) less than when I took Clomid so I'm all about injectibles. I take Repronex and so far, so good!

I do talk to my RE about things and bring up things that I want to try. I have learned a lot in the past couple of months from the internet and books. Hopefully soon we will find the right combination.

I'm glad femara worked better for you. I never had those side effects from Clomid. I just had hot flashes, headaches, and the crankies.
