Default Smarter than the average Dr

Do you guys ever feel like you know more about PCOS than your Dr does? My husband always makes fun of me for diagnosing and suggesting a plan of action for my Dr, but I will say that he always agrees with me. I also tend to suggest things to friends that are ttc, but again, their Dr usually tells them the same things I do. I missed my calling, I should have been a mid wife, lol.

Cute!

I'm actually glad that despite how smart I think I am on this front, my fertility doctor seems to know more than me. I was convinced I had PCOS and he has not only seen me on ultrasounds but also laid eyes on my ovaries (during surgery) and declared otherwise. He's also the one who thought to take a closer look at my fibroids when 2 regular gyns had said they're fine. We are on the exact same page regarding what treatment I need (injectibles & IUI), and he's even up on things like alternative meds and doing back-to-back IUIs.

What I WILL say is that I'm way smarter than my ob-gyn about all this! I could probably open a hotline in his office for women with fertility questions, because neither he nor his assistant had good answers for much at all. Yeesh.

Thumbs up

I feel that way to sometimes, the nurse looks at me in amazement, I think they used to get annoyed at 1st cuz I asked so many questions and called them on there vague answer's, example I would call for my prog levels and she would leave a message like my levels were excellent, I would call back and say, ummm what's excellent I need a number!! LOL. now they now I need all the details. I think they should be happy we are so on top of our conditions!!! Hooray for us informed Patients

LOL yes, i have to have a number too!! Friends of mine will tell me that there prog was good or that their beta or something (a LOT of times they don't even know what was tested) was good and I'm like, "well what was it" they don't even know, just that their dr said it was fine. Wow, I guess it would be nice to not have to know every detail because you never have problems anyway. PCOS SUCKS

I'm the same way...I always ask for numbers and I call and ask questions all the time. I get really irritated b/c I come up with better explanations then the Dr. and a lot of times he's just like "I don't know girl". I think both the dr and the nurses get annoyed with me but I like being informed and I want to know what is going on with my body. Sometimes I feel that b/c I'm not pregnant I get pushed aside but this is supposed to be the best ob/gyn office in my area so I guess I have to grin and bear it.

It should not surprise any of you that, in the past, society's most brilliant women became midwives - partly because that was the only occupation outside the home that was available to them. So we're just carrying on a proud tradition!
