I'm not on Met, but I have always been that way -- I can eat almost anything without an upset stomach, but certain smells -- cigarette or other smoke, paint, perfume, exhaust, anything like that and I have an upset stomach and usually a headache.
It's worse on an empty stomach and absolutely the worst on an empty stomach early in the morning. If I have to be in a small space with a couple of people smoking early in the morning before breakfast, I might as well just go home -- I'll have a horrible headache and be retching and belching for a couple of hours.
My mom's that way, too. I always ask doctors why this is, and they don't have any idea; I'm just glad so many places are non-smoking nowadays -- I was sick during much of my working career in the 80s.

I too am going to start Met but Dermatologist said I have to wait until July as I have just started Antibiotics for Acne and he wants to make sure I dont have any adverse reaction to those first. I read the Metaformin side effects posts (loads of them) and they are really helpful as it seems to effect different people at different levels. I am hoping that it will help me lose weight. Not many cysters posted how much weight they have lost and I would be really interested to find out. So please let me know as this is my last hope! I am even willing to live with the stomach upsets etc...
for most ladies here, its not a forever tummy problem while on met. its more of a 'getting used to' problem. my tummyaches lasted maybe 1-2 weeks. they do come and go still, usually if i have gone a long time between meals.
good luck.

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.
Here's my list of smells that bug me ever since Met:
ANY perfume
The neighbor's dryer sheets (can you say French Whore House?)
Vinegar (or variations like pickles, saurkraut, etc)
and here's the weird one. I cannot cook or eat previously frozen meats anymore. I might as well throw my crock pot away.

Get involved in animal rescue. You won't be sorry. Your heart may break, there may be times when your eyes are red-rimmed for days. You may lose faith in the goodness of people, but your spirit will be renewed by the resilience of those you save. It isn't easy, but it's worth it. I promise you, you will be forever changed.
