Default Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter -- Thoughts?

Anyone like natural peanut butter? I thought I'd give it a try, try something different and not so loaded with sugar. So far, it seems to be something that I'll have to get used to, but it's okay, I like plain peanuts, so why not ground up plain peanuts.

I love the stuff. We buy the creamy because for some reason the chunky just doesn't want to spread on bread right. I love it mixed with banana mash. DH bought the honey flavored, but I didn't like it much.

Yummy! And cheap. i drizzle a small amount of honey on my toast because i do like some sweetness.

if you find yourself craving the regular trans fat PB, remember that trans fats are just like Crisco...nobody would make a sandwich w/that!

I got the kind with honey and I really liked it! It IS hard for me to get mixed up, but even w/out the oil mixed in it's good.

I love natural PB. The thing is to mix it well and then store it upside down in the fridge so it doesn't separate again.

You can also blender 1/3 cup peanut butter with 3/4 cup great northern beans or navy beans until smooth. Still peanutty in taste, but easier to spread and lower cal.

That's what I do. As soon as I get the jar home I turn it upside down.

Default peanut butter and banana milkshake

I love blending 2 tbsp natural peanut butter with 1 banana, a cup of milk, and some ice cubes. Makes a fabulous, nutritious milkshake. I drink that, plus I eat whole grain toast, for a really good breakfast.

I like to mix the natural pb with liver pudding & bananas and put it on a sandwich with tomatoes and no sugar mayo. It's an aquired taste, LOL. Daddy used to put sugar on his, but without the tomatoes and liverpudding. I never liked the crunch of the sugar.

Liver pudding?!?!?!? What is that?

A friend of mine makes a sandwich using the oddest combination of ingredients: spread 2 slices of wheat bread with crunchy peanut butter. Then layer on a few thin slices of ham, a slice of cheddar cheese (or any kind that's good in grilled cheese sandwiches), and steamed broccoli florets (sp?). Grill like a grilled cheese sandwich.

I tried it once and I can get the ham, cheese and broccoli, but not the peanut butter.

This is the brand we always ate:

http://www.neesesausage.com/products/default.htm

"A fully cooked southern favorite with our special spices. It's 96% fat free and, believe it or not, a favorite of kids who love it on a sandwich or warmed in the pan for breakfast. By the way, it doesn't taste like pudding and it doesn't look like liver."

I don't know how to describe the taste, but it's mild to say the least. DH doesn't have the nerve to try it. Wikipedia says it's a runny mixture, but the stuff we always ate was not. It doesn't keep in the fridge as long as some meats.

if you have a health food store in your area like Sun Harvest or Wild oats or something like that, a lot of times they will have a specialty grinder that does peanut butter - the one at "my" store is right near the Bulk bins of grains n stuff - Its absolutely great, but doesnt have the kind of shelflife the pasteurized stuff does. They have a pile of plastic tubs (usually ranging from a couple ounces to a couple lbs) and you just pick the one you want, and fill it up when youre ready its really cool to watch the grinder, and little kids seem to get a bigger kick out of knowing that what theyre eating used to be the peanuts in the hopper lol! When i was in an area without a store with a proper grinder like that sometimes theyll have em in the back if they have a farmers market area or something similar - its worth asking about, and its a LOT cheaper than buying stuff in jars - that stuff is outrageous.

We always get the natural peanut butter but it can be difficult to mix.

What I do is put the jar in the microwave (without the lid) and nuke it for one minute. It'll stir up great then put it in the fridge.

I like to eat it with fruit spreads or sugar-free jelly on whole wheat toast or bagel. It is also great as an openface sandwich with toast, PB, and sliced ripe tomato slices. Yummy.
