So here's my story... I have long (waist length) wavy hair, that used to be very thick (it was depressing to go home at Christmas and have my sis comment that my ponytail didn't seem as thick and busy as usual - must just be well behaved today. And here I thought it was only noticable at the scalp!). This is a combination very prone to tangles and snarling, and it seems to only have gotten worse in the last few months. And since it's falling out enough on its own without me pulling it out when I hit a snarl, here's my questions for you ladies...
any advice on detangling/desnarling products that you've actually found useful? I usually just use standard shampoo and conditioner (V05 at the moment), and then apply Frizz-ease leave in conditioner afterwards, which used to be enough to tame the tangles to a brushable point, and keep it from resnarling too quickly, but that doesn't seem to be enough any more. Any other advice???

Yes...I can add some advise!!! first... stop using the frizz eaze! Very bad for your hair.. it can actually increase fall out... and can make your hair brittle, which makes it break much easier!
What happens, is frizz-eaze has silicones in it.. you can tell if you look at the ingredients any thing that ends in "cone".. like dimethacone.. etc.. is a silicone. That stuff coats the hair, and seals it.. locks out moisture.. and basically chokes out the hair..
So, my advice.. don't use it.. short term it seems like it is working great.. but long term, you can actually end up with very thin. brittle, lifeless hair.
As for really good conditioners for detangling.. I use a whole product line by "george michael".. specifically formulated for long hair. it can get expensive.. so, if you were only to buy one product I would suggest the cream rinse... it makes your hair very slippery... comb just slips right through it.
Also, if you go to longhairlovers.com they sell many great products for long hair. I've used their shampoos and conditioners, and they are great.
Also, you can go natural by using oils in place of your frizz eaze... I've used coconut oil, jojoba oil... Monoi is the best! you don't need very much.. just a drop, warmed between your hands.. and worked into the lower lengths and ends will help protect, moisturize, and detangle...
I use Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner for Dry/Damaged hair. I've not found another condition (that I can afford) that detangles as well as the Pantene does.
I am so happy that I read your post...I have some great news!! I know something that would DEFINETLY help you and you will start to feel better!! Please try "Creme of Nature detangling shampoo and conditioner." This stuff works absolute miracles!! Your hair will be shiny, smooth, and virtually tangle and snarle free. This will cut down on your hair loss and breakage. I know what you are going through I have long, thick hair and it seems as though everytime I brush I am losing hair...and I do not know if it is from the PCOS or the tangles/snarls, I do know that the creme of nature has helped me sooo much...it is great stuff! Please try the shampoo and conditioner...you will be satisfied. I hope this helps hun...take care!!!
Thanks! I'll have to look in to those suggestions. I'm used to having a lot of hair in my brush from tangles, but now I'm getting as much in one day as I used to get after two or three days of not remembering to clean out the brush! So anything that will stop more hair being ripped out or broken is great.

I think that the hair loss we have with PCOS goes beyond any conditioner... if the hair is loose in the shaft, it's gonna fall out, whether you pull it or not.
I think the best thing you can do to cut down on tangles is cut your hair. I don't mean hack it all off, I mean keep the ends trimmed. Trimming off straggly/split ends really cuts down on breakage and keeps your hair a lot more tangle-free. DH has crazy curly hair - those long boingy boing type curls - that he hadn't had cut for years. Finally got a trim about a week ago and he's amazed at how much easier it is to comb out after a shower now.
If you're not going in for regular trims, you might want to give it a try.
Got it trimmed about a week ago.. it helped for about two days. Sigh.
