Default So confused!

I was diagnised with PCOS in 1999 and started Metformin/Glucophage 1000 mgs in 2001. My NP just kicked me up to 2000 recently as I am still anovulatory. Recent bloodwork showed that a TSH of 10 and so my GP ran all the tests over. I can't get her on the phone, but she left me a message saying that the results are the same and she doesn't want to treat now but wants to retest in November.

That just doesn't sound right to me.

I'm a bit stressed because my wedding is next sunday and then we will be on an 8 week honeymoon. I know that a hypothyroid condition can be a barrier to ovulation and also significantly increase the chances of miscarriage.

Any thoughts on this?

Pocket,

That TSH is way too high just for daily living, not to mention TTC! Is there any way you could see an endocrinologist? Or at a least a physician instead of an NP? Did she test T3 and T4? What were they? I really question her judgement, as the most updated guidelines recommend a TSH under 3 for everyone.

You need to get your thyroid under control to successfully TTC, not to mention feeling your best! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and good luck.

OMGOSH! I agree with Jessica, that is WAY too high.
I felt like I was going to die when my tshw as 10,seriously.I would definately try to get into your DR before you go on your honeymoon because that needs to be treated.
I had my tsh checked last week and it is .05....shew!I can't get mine stabilized at all.
Please let us know how it goes ok and a big CONGRATS on your wedding!!

I think my doc is wrong. I mean, she's not an endo, she's a GP. She may just not be well-educated on this matter.

TSH - 10
T4 - 1.3
T3 - 293

Isn't that weird? The TSH and T4 seem to indicate underactive thyroid, but the T3 is normal if not a bit too high. I just don't have time to deal with this right now. I have Kaiser so you have to be really proactive and I don't have time for it with the wedding in 10 days. I'll just take the increased metformin dosage, and hopefully that will at least start to stabilize my PCOS. 1000 mgs was doing nothing for me.

We aren't exactly ready to TTC, just using PCOS as BC right now. LOL! We just felt like even though we don't feel ready right this exact second it would be wrong to try to prevent since we already know the odds aren't in our favor.

Thanks for the validation JessicaE and jenn_6!!

My T3 was 370-something! I had to back uo on my cytomel (T3).
If there is any way that she she could give you a low dose of armour or unithroid/synthoid it would be good.

How are you feeling?Like I said earlier,I felt dead at that level.
The new dr I saw sat told me that we all are born with a predestined TSH level that we feel the best at.She said she felt best at 1.5-2.I looked back at my past labs and I felt baest at around3 but my female hormones were ok then too....it's a pain in the butt sometimes..LOL...

I wish you the best

I feel exhausted, and forgetful, and just *wrong* you know? But I am a bride and brides are always exhausted and forgetful so who knows. My instinct is that something isn't right. I also have waking temps between 96.9 and 96.9 for the past three months.

<<I feel exhausted, and forgetful, and just *wrong* you know?>>

Yes yes yes! That is classic hypo symptoms. It could be blamed on being a new bride (I blamed mine on just having a baby 5 mos before!)
When my tsh was 10 I had extreme brain fog....I could not finish a sentence!I am still that way but not nearly as bad.....thank goodness!

Best wishes to you
