hi guys, im new here, but hope you can give me the advice im looking for!!
ive come on here as im just so confused about what to do. i feel th enext desision is going to be 'make or break' and will determine my future completely!
first off - a quick run down... i was on the pill from the age of 15 to 20. when i came off the pill i didnt get a period for over a year and was diagnosed with pcos. i never waited around for a period to come and went back on the pill. that was 5 years ago. since then i have moved to australia and they dont produce my pill (cilest) over here so was forced to change (to yaz). this was about 2 months ago. anyway - i never started taking yaz, i dont know why, i kinda just thought id see what would happen. im now 25, in a 10 year relationship, and even though me and my partner are planning for kids in a year or two, we wouldnt be too disappointed if it happened now!!!
i recently really started getting my hopes up after being off the pill for 2 months, i havent had the hair/acne appearing as i did last time i came off the pill. UNTIL TONIGHT!!! its amazing that one spot on my shoulder has upset me so much, but anyone with pcos surely understands! i just feel its all coming back now, the reminders every day when i look in the mirror how hard it could be to fall pregnant.
my dilema is this:
* do i stay off the pill and use condoms until we decide the time is right to seriously try in a years time,
* do we try now incase it takes 2 years (or longer) to even fall preg,
* or do i go back on the pill, get rid of my nasty symptoms and come off in a year with the hope of falling pregnant straight away, but risk it taking even longer from then.
if only there was a crystal ball - im so confused!!!
Hi Luna,
I'm no expert in PCOS, but I would HIGHLY recommend a consult with your doctor. From what I understand, you can control your symptoms with medications and TTC at the same time. Your questions are so specific, I think a doctor might be best to answer them. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I think youre right. a friend has just advised me though that you can get a blood test to tell whether pcos is a just hormone imbalance or a fertility issue???? do you know anything about this? if they could tell me this i think it would solve a lot of worrying. to find out it was a fertility issue would mean i wouldnt waste any more time in seriously trying for a baby...hormonal imbalances that didnt affect fertitiry i could deal with!!!!! im a bit annoyed though that i never recieved any kind of support of information from my doctor when first diagnosed, was just sent off to deal with the consequences. it wasnt even explained to me properly. thanks so much for your help
Luna, my best advice to you is to consult a doctor. Everyone is different. We spent almost 18 months TTC before I consulted a doctor, and part of me wonders if we'd already have a baby if I hadn't waited. Even if you aren't planning to have a baby right away, a doctor could at least help you plan a course of action if you don't get pregnant straight away, and can do some bloodwork and perhaps an ultrasound to see if you have cysts.
I can understand where your coming from. I don't think this condition is taken very seriously in Australia, I have just been diagnosed myself and given virtually no info from my doc (who is hardly ever avail) and my hospital consult is not until 23rd of dec!! My husband and I wanted kids in the nxt yr or so, and since I found out about the PCOS (mind u I havn't been getting propper periods for ages and had all other symptoms but just took too long to face reality and get tests done) we have just given up on contraception now, because it might take a while so we may as well just start trying. In fact the doc told me I will most likely need fertility treatment as I am not ovulating :-( Any way I would advise to avoid going on the pill just to aleviate symptoms, as it is not a true fix for the cycle problems, and especially if you want to try for kids soon, it takes at least six months after going off the pill for your cycle to return to normal so it might interfere with you trying to concieve. Anyway I am just as clueless as u atm, searching for information on the net! good luck
I wish that I had come off b/c earlier before starting TTC. Rather than waiting and waiting for the "right time" and then expecting it to happen straight away. It would have given me time to figure out what the issue was and therefore the opportunity to correct it if I could (by diet or losing weight etc).
I think you should talk to your doctor and let him/ her know you are seriuos about finding out what your body is doing- ask for an u/s and blood tests, referal to a gyno and go from there. I wish you luck what ever you choose.
