Hi I am new here..I am 16 years old, and my doctor says that I probably have pcos, but she wants to do a few more tests to be positive. Ever since then i have been completely depressed. Since I am so young I am only having some of the symptoms, and I am extremely afraid that I wont be able to have kids when I am older. My family is acting like it is no big deal and I dont really have many friends. I just feel so depressed about this happening now and what is going to happen. My mom said I should see a therapist, and I just dont know what to do. I just am so sad...

I wish I found ot when I was in highschool, by knowing now you can know hat obstacles you are up against, you will be able to deal with them head on. my cousin has PCOS and has 2 very cute healthy babies. I am not sure if you are overweight, but my RE told me that getting the weight off is first and foremosthe best treatment when you are young, it will help. I just DX last month but i have known somethng was up snce ia was 15. I know its hard to deal with, and you feel alone, ranting on here and talking ith some of the cysters has helped me heal, and given me the courage to go on and continue to have dreams os babies, there are so many wonderul ladies and some men that are supportive, have answers to questions that dr. dont have, and are compassionate to our health, emotional, and sel image issues. I hope that you understand you are not alone in this horrible syndrome, and we are all here helping each other to go from PCOS suffere to a PCOS sucess story/survivor

Welcome Sam, I am so glad you've come to join us here, you'll find heaps of information and women who understand what you're going through.
Firstly, you ARE lucky to have found out now, rather than in 20 years time. Lots of doctors told me I was just too fat and lazy, and that's why I was sick. When it turns out I had PCOS all that time! The earlier you learn about it, the easier it is to deal with in the long term.
And secondly, depression is very common in women with PCOS. It's all part of the strong hormonal cocktail we deal with every day. So don't be afraid or worried about getting professional help (through a doctor or counsellor), as it can be really life-changingly helpful.
I look forward to "seeing you around" and hope your PCOS journey is a positive one.
I know you're feeling down right now but instead of focusing on the "bad"news I want to tell you why you are in fact very, very lucky!
When I was 16 I had all kinds of issues with periods/PMS/health in general that were written off and dismissed. I had one doctor that performed a laporoscomy and completely missed the problem altogether. I was diagnosed instead at 30 when my problems associated with PCOS were much, much further along.
Being diagnosed young is not a curse but a blessing! With proper care taken you have the opportunity, starting now, to never have to tangle with obesity, hair loss, acne or infertility. You can make a lifestyle change when you're young and avoid a lot of the merrigoround of medical treatments that those of us that are diagnosed at an older age have to go through.
By the by I would like to tell you that despite my worst PCOS symptoms I am a proud mother of 2 - (I'm not saying that infertility won't be an issue), but you have to know that even though infertility is a problem for many of our sisters with PCOS (God bless you all!), there are in fact many of us who go on to concieve just fine.
Don't think of it as a sentence, consider it an early wake up call.
