What are the chances of having a test be in the so called normal range but still have low thyroid...I have thought for a couple years now that I am hypo but test within the normal range so doctors won't do anything...I am starting to notice a few symptoms getting worse I am always tired it desn't matter how many hours I sleep...I have no energy at all there is so much I want to do but just sit around because I just can't get up the energy to do...I have extremly dry hair...Dry skin...The biggest one I have noticed lately is I am always so cold especially my hands and feet they get so cold they almost hurt if that makes since...I feel like I am in a fog and almost depressed at times...I also have no sex drive at all...I just don't know how to go about getting proper care...I know I am also IR and am not being treating for it the doctors just dn't seem to care...What really scares me is I have been told my 8 year old DD is IR but the doctors would not treat her they just said to watch her diet...She is overweight and does not eat like an obease child she eats like a nornal 8 year old so what else am I to do...I also am starting to wonder if she could be hypo also as she has always been so much colder than the rest of us it could be 70 degrees out and she will cover up...Sorry for the ramvble but I am just so lost and tired of not feeling well...

I have the EXACT same symptoms as you. My levels are "normal" too.
I was diagnosed hypo several years ago and took synthroid, which helped immediately. I took it until I got pregnant and my thyroid levels changed. I went off the synthroid about 4 years ago, and felt OK until the past year when I started feeling hypo again. But I've had labwork twice, and both show my thyroid completely normal.
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer but I understand your frustration, you know there's a problem and you just want to know what it is. I want to know too.

I understand your frusterations. Even though I am being treated, I know I am not being treated propperly because I seem to know much more than my doctor does about thyroid disease. I'm in the process of finding a new doctor.
You said that your levels are "normal" but do you know what your actual TSH is? If you don't get a copy of your lab results from your doctor. Many doctors use outdated ranges as high as 4-5 and some people still have symptoms when they are being treated and have a TSH much, much lower. If your doctor isn't listening to you then you need to find a new doctor. You know your body better than your doctor does because you live in it every day. Get a second opinion and find some answers! That goes for your IR as well. Find a doctor that will educate you on propper nutrition and possibly meds if that is what is best for you.

I just got home from the Dr for this very same thing, I have been struggling for awhile now and have had every symptom that you have described. I went to a nutritionist a few weeks ago and she was looking over my test results and felt that I was very borderline. She talked to the Dr and told her what she felt and then I went in today to talk with the Dr myself and she said that there is such a thing as sub clinical hypothyroidism and that it could be treated with the lowest dose possible and lot's of monitoring.
So today I was given a script for .25 mgs I can't wait to get started and get to feeling better.
Good luck! Be persistent it took me 6 years to get what I did today!!

Oh my God - for ages I have been going to my doctor with all the symptoms of Hypo and insisting that I am hypo yet constantly being told that my thyroid levels are within the 'normal' range so it comes as a huge relief to know that I'm not alone in my symptoms OR frustrations!
I visited the doctor last night (for all the good it actually did) but I'm being sent off for yet another round of blood tests....honestly, my left arm is like a pin cushion; so fingers crossed. Sounds bizarre *wanting* to be hypo but in a weird way you kind of want it to be so you can tell the doctor "See, I told you for 4 years this was wrong with me, now let's fix it!!".

Have you been tested for anti-thyroid antibodies? If you have antibodies, or are thyroid hormone resistant, you could have so-called "normal" levels and still be ill.
I have hashimoto's, which is the autoimmune thyroiditis, and I need to keep my TSH hovering around 1.0 or I feel very ill. If I am at a TSH of 2.5, I feel sick.
Thank You Ladies....DO any of you know if BFing changes your levels at all as I want to start seeking treatment but am still BFing my DD? As for my DD1 the endo just told me she has all the classic signs of IR just watch her diet...We were sent to the indo becuase of her weight I get so tired of ddoctrs only focusing on the weight as the issue and telling me to watch what she eats and exercise her...She is a typical 8 year old she plays a lot and eats very little but yet still weighs 130 pounds am I the only one who sees a problem here...I worry also that if I have a thyroid condition then she could very well also...I am also scarded that my 2 year old will end up in the same situatuin she is very petiete now but so was the 8 year old she did not begin to gain until she was 3...
As far as the hashimoto's I remember watching an episode of mystery diagnois and the women that hashimoto's and I just kept thinking that sound just like myself I could idenify with everything she was talking about...
I am hoping I can find a doc who will listen to me and then I can have help with my DD that way...
On a side note my last appointment with an endo I left so PO'ed and like he didn't even listen he told me that there was no way I had PCOS or a very slim chance because I had 2 kids at the time and that was not capable of happening and then when he utrasounded me I only had 2 cysts so that was not enough to clasify me as having PCOS...Mind you I was on BC and had been doing a research study for PCOS and had been on Met and Actos...With Doc appointments being 25 bucks a pop I want to have as much info as possible when I go in...

If you haven't had your blood checked for anti-thyroid antibodies (not sure what the true name is), you should. TSH reflects thyroid levels circulating in the body, but antibodies tell the dr. if any damage has occurred to the gland itself. When I was diagnosed, my "numbers" were borderline, but a certain level of antibodies was also present in the blood. Therefore, I had thyroid damage and it was going to continue to impair my hormone production, so dr. started me on meds to get levels right again.

My TSH was 2.9 I felt like crap. Wasnt sure if it was the thyroid or PCOS my endo (despite my having hashi's and three nodules) did nothing except biopsy the nodules every 6 months.
I went to a new endo, he feels that for fertility purposes TSH has to be below 2.5 (some endos actually think below a 2) and b/c of that and my nodules he put me on Levoxyl (112 mcg). My levels were checked by my GP (who gave me metformin since no one else would) and my TSH level is down to .18 in less than 30 days. I feel FANTASTIC! I have lost weight, the depression is gone, I have energy, I actually want to talk to my friends..........I just woke up one saturday morning two weeks ago and felt amazing!
My advice, arm yourself with as much info as you can, and keep looking for a doctor that will work with you. Everyone is different and one person who feels good at a "normal" 1.5 may feel like crap at a "normal" 2.0.
