About two and a half years ago, weight was out of control and I kept gaining weight, so I finally went to the doc and said I wanted to take Metformin. I had already been diagnosed PCOS (I actually diagnosed myself and found the specialist in the area). I had insulin resistance, but everything else was under control with BCP. I had perfect 90 day cycles on Desogen. I started Met and stopped the BCP hoping the Met would work by itself. I had also gone to the Neuro about the same time for Migraines and she put me on Topamax.
Well after a month or two, the migraines were gone and I had ovulated (shown by ultrasound) followed by a period! Well, that was the only one, so after 4 months (and hair falling out), I had to go back on the BCP. The pounds were also falling off. I wasn't purposely altering my diet, but the med combo somehow left me with no appetite and I lost most of what I ate through either end. Well, my appetite finally came back, but now I have a shut off valve (so to speak) that tells me when I'm full.
So now I'm down about 35 pounds (which is alot on a 4'7" frame), but the hair growth is getting worse (I have a mustache now, for the first 9 years on BCP, it went away, and new hair on my breast where they weren't before), my skin is very sensitive, and my hair texture on my head has changed. I used to be able to use Retin-A to control my acne, but my skin is too sensitive now.
The worst part is that I cannot go 90 days on BCP without bleeding in between. My periods used to be perfect. Going on Metformin and losing weight was supposed to help! I've only gotten worse. I thought my testosterone had gotten worse, but it's only 26. My insulin was cut in half by the Met. My endo switched my to Yasmin, still taking three packs at a time. Guess what, same problem. I started bleeding on day 24, just like a regular period, then stopped.
I think that it's the Topamax screwing everything up (it's known to interfere with BCP, but only at 250mg, while I'm only on 50mg). My endo said I'm not on a high enough dose for that to be the problem. That's when the problems started, when I started Topamax and Metformin. It has to be on of those causing the problem. But, they made me lose weight, lower my insulin and got rid of my migraines. I'm not willing to test my theory about the Topamax because of the Migraines. (I've been fighting migraines since I was 13, now I'm 30 and this is the only thing thats ever helped).
Bless your heart...I really am sorry you are going through all this...I hope you feel better soon....((((HUGS))))

I have been fighting the same battle since I was 15. Nothing seems to take care of everything. The migraines get so bad sometimes. I havent tried Topamax my doc put me on migrin which doesnt seem to help much. Most of the doctors I have been to have just told me I need to loose weight. I went on a strick diet and worked out often. I even became an assistant weight trainer at my gym. But with all of that I still couldnt loose weight. I want to have at least one baby but the recent doctors have said that may never happen. I know what its like and I wish I had good news for you but no one has helped me yet. I just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat.
Hang in there!
Nikki76,
Hugs to you cyster. I'm so sorry you're going through hard times. We're here for you anytime.
Looking4Hope,
I too was told by some docs that I'd never have another baby after my second son was born. Look in my siggy picture and you'll see that they were very wrong! Hope this encourages you...
Hugs cysters
Jenny
