So - how do you know you have your hormones 'under control'??
The reason I'm asking is I think I am getting close to starting laser therapy for my face (yay!!! ), but I read you shouldn't even start laser unless you've got your hormones 'under control'. So what exactly does that mean? Should I have my labs redone and see where I stand?
I'm wondering how my hormones are doing these days. My baby is six months old now, and I have been back on Metformin for about six weeks or so. Maybe a little longer, come to think of it. I just don't want to waste my money.
I cannot say Metformin has helped with my horrible, horrible carb cravings this time around. Not a bit. I pig out on the last bit of chocolate that is in the house, it's awful. I disgust myself. But that's a different story, lol. I also find my hair disgusting and I really want to do this laser therapy.
Sorry to be rambling, but how do I know the time is right?
Thanks for any insight.

How much met do you take? It should help with your carb. craving. Wonder why its not?
I would get a recheck for sure. Its takes 6 months for mine to get normal. I just got my results Wed. And everything is great. But how do you feel? Thats always a good test.
I take 2500 mg a day. So 500 mg might not be enough for you now. Most people have to up it every few months. Until everything gets normal. Im maxed out.
What beautiful babies!!!!! Japan, I can only tell you what my endo told me. It can take years to see the full effects of control over the hair thingy we have. If it were me, and you have the opportunity to have the surgery done, I would do it. I haven't seen anything that says you should wait because of your hormones. Also, with the met, your body has gone thru a big hormonal upheaval with the new little one, and it takes time to get back. If you feel the met isn't doing enough, it may be time to get another benchmark of hormone levels and see where you're at. Sorry for the long absence from here...we are now moved into our place in Tennessee, and things are finally getting back to normal again! Take care honey, and darn that chocolate! Whoever invented it should be kissed full on the mouth and then promptly shot.

LOL, Tracey! Couldn't have said it better myself. Glad to hear you're all settled in now. Hope you like it there. Welcome back and Happy New Year!
Okay then, I guess my next course of action will be to find a doctor here to order all those tests. I'm just wondering if it is too soon after having the baby. I don't think my hormones are back to 'normal' - PCOS normal, ha ha ha. I am still way too warm all the time. I go outside without a jacket, don't need a warm blanket at night, that kind of stuff. But I am just so excited over the prospect of getting rid of the hair that I'd rather do it today than next week, KWIM? Patience has never been my strength. Since it is a lot of money to spend - or waste - however, I guess I will just have to wait and see if the time is right yet.
My Dr told me that if male hormones are high and you go ahead with laser, that the results will not be permanent. The reason is that with your male hormones out of sync, your symptoms will continue to progress and more hair follicles will be stimulated, and you'll be throwing your cash away.
So definetly get your male hormones (testosterone, free androgen) and hormones that convert to male hormones easily (like DHEA's) within normal limits first.
Take care!

Christy, thanks for the info. That's what I thought I read somewhere, I just couldn't find the article anymore. I just want this hair to go away, but I don't have money to waste, so it's got to be done right.
BTW, how many more treatments do you have - or are you done? Are you satisfied with the results so far? I cannot wait to start this.
Oh, and my boys are doing fabulous, thanks for asking. They're the sweetest, brightest, bestest kids I could have asked for.
