I know that fish is mega healthy for you, but how to things like shrimp and lobster compare?
I make it a goal to eat lots of fish (6 - 10 times a week). Last week, I had fish 4 times and shrimp 5 times... I'm wondering if I can say "Good for me! I ate shrimp!" or is it more neurtal?
Although it is good for you in many ways..it is also high in cholesteral so I would beinge more on fish/salmon more than shrimp!

Are you taking shrimp with or withOUT their poop trails?
Poop trails?? What do you mean?! Don't get me worried - I enjoyed shrimp just a day or two ago!

Shrimp that aren't butterflied (so that they look flat or flatter) still contain what we'd consider intestines, thus holding shrimp's fecal matter...sometimes cocktail shrimp have had them cleaned out but typically...no. I try to skip the ones that have it (it being a dark line that runs down the back of the shrimp). Sometimes you can remove it yourself if you are in a place where that is acceptable.
SORRY to ruin anyone's shrimp eating. I still eat them I just get them butterflied or remove it when I see it.

Some packaged shrimp come with a lot of salt. I try to soak and wash mine before eating, but the salt makes it taste sooooo good. check the labels for sodium content if you're concerned.
I agree with the PP who said they were very high in cholesterol! When I was having my gallbladder attacks and put on a low fat diet, I thought that shrimp was in the clear due to not having any fat! Boy, was I wrong - the cholesterol actually gave me the worst gallbladder attack ever!

Hey Bek!
I just read an article yesterday about fish consumption. Are you eating all organic fish? If not, that many servings is probably too much because of mercury content. I saw shrimp on the 'not more than 1x/week' list.
I'm bummed about the mercury thing because I LOVE fish, and I could eat it every day with no complaints!

Most of the fish that I buy is organic. Well, I'm assuming so, because it's wild-caught. I generally stay away from farm-raised fish because I don't trust the farms...
The goal of shrimp is to clean the oceans, so they are not realy that healthy. As was stated above, be sure to remove the digestive tract which is the black line.
