Default So it looks like we're adopting again...

I guess I just thought I'd make it official with a post.. we're adopting again. We had planned to TTC for at least a year before moving on to adoption, but that's all changed now. I went in on Oct 7 to have my gallbladder removed. On Oct 16 I finally got home from the hospital after everything that COULD go wrong DID go wrong. I almost died somewhere in between.
Having been through all of that, I told DH that I don't want to continue the fertility treatments for fear of another abdominal surgery (c-section). He asked what if we turn up pregnant without trying and I said then I'll accept it as God's will. I'm not putting myself out there for it purposefully though.
It might sound like a ridiculous jump to other people, but I look at my sweet little Sam and all I can think is he almost didn't have a mommy. Again. I know c-section is an entirely different kind of surgery, but I also now know that my body doesn't do well with being cut open in general. I can't put myself at that kind of risk on purpose.
So we've agreed to start the adoption process as soon as possible. Right now we're researching and trying to decide on a country (or domestic, we haven't ruled that out as we would both very much like a little baby). If anyone has adopted from Panama we'd love to hear your experience.

So very sorry to hear about your operation--that must have been so scary for you & your DH. I also had my gb removed about 7 years ago. Not a fun procedure.

I echo all the congrats to you for your decision to adopt again. What a wonderful thing!

Smile good for you

There are so many children in the world that need good loving homes. As an adopted child, here is my only advice: Try to get a picture and some background info on the birth parents if possible, I know I would have appreciated that. Also, if you adopt a child from another country, try and celebrate their unique heritage as often as you can. I am Colombian and Dutch and a Caucasian dad and a Guatemalan mom adopted me. My mother at least made sure that I kept in touch with my Hispanic roots, which has helped me identify with my race. Also, I was glad that I learned early on that I was adopted, I still remember being a kid and having my parents show me some books about adoption and I remember it not being such a big deal. I was in some bad situations before I was adopted; this process truly saved me from the streets. The child that you adopt might be curious about their birth parents some day, just know that most of us just want to see where our roots are (and find out medical history, etc.) and we realize that the people who changed our bums, taught us how to drive, set curfews for us, etc. are our real parents. I am just mentioning this because when I told my father that I wanted to research more about my birth parents, his feelings got hurt. I did not mean to do that but I just have some medical issues and I want some questions resolved. Of course I can’t generalize how all adopted kids feel, I just know that a lot of these orphaned/abandoned kids would not be loved if it weren’t for adoptive parents.

Awesome Brandy, I am excited for you and Dan and little Sam. Sorry about the gallbladder surgery complications. I had mine taken out almost 7 years ago and still unfortunately suffer the effects of not having one.

Anyway, good luck. And keep us posted.

We will be starting the process again just as soon as Billy's adoption is final.

I am sorry you had a hard time with your operation but I am glad you are going to adopt again. I came to the same conclusion. I'm tired of waisting time trying to force my body to do something that is just will not do the whole time being told by doctors a preg would be bad for me.
Your little boy is so cute I can see why you want to adopt again.
Best of Luck,
Karen
