I have so many questions and I'm really hoping that someone or maybe lots of someones will be able to help me. My husband and I have recently decided that we want to start trying to conceive for the first time. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with PCOS and my GYN said, "You have something called PCOS. Lose weight, here is a prescription for Yasmin to regulate your periods and here's a pamphlet on PCOS." and that was it! I have been dealing with this on my own and teaching myself about my condition. Now that my husband and I want to start trying to conceive, I found out recently that my GYN left the hospital so I had to find a new GYN.
I have an appointment on Aug. 22 and so I'm wondering what should I be doing or what should I do before my appointment? I am doing my best to lose more weight before my appointment and I am going to start taking vitamins. I am also temping, which I just started today. I want her to take me seriously and I want her to know I mean business! I am NOT going to be pushed around like my previous GYN did. I didn't know any better then because I was scared and didn't know what to do. I've been researching for 2 years, so I am going in armed this time!
How do I look into my insurance to see what medications are covered or not covered? Should I get it in writing? Should I ask my GYN to be put on Metformin and/or Clomid? What questions should I ask when I go to my appointment? What information should I take with me? It's the same hospital so they should have my records and stuff in the computer system. If my meds aren't covered, can anyone tell me how much they would be to buy? I know all insurance companies are different, but generally, what has everyone found? Are they covered or not? I'm just not sure what to expect!
I know I had more questions but now I can't remember what they were. I am just wanting to be as prepared as I can be when I go to my appointment, you know? If you can help me, I would SO appreciate it! I'm sorta feeling overwhelmed at this point. Sorry this post got to be kinda long.
Thanks!

I would come up with a list of questions to ask. Your weight lose is great! call your insurance company and ask them iff they cover the medications you are hoping for.
Here is a link to some other things you might want to talk about http://www.soulcysters.net/showthread.php?t=6529&page=2&pp=15
Keep us posted on how things go for you. She'll take you seriously if she's a good dr. But keep temping keep doing what your doing make sure to take all that infor with you.

do you have alot of the PCOS systems? did your doc do blood tests or ultra sound? you are still on the pill right..... i would basically ask her what she suggests you do, so you can begin getting preg..... Metoformin is usually giving if you insulin is high (diabeties), which you should be tested for.... or some doc, give it to us cysters to help us lose weight,,, (works for some, but not others) also may help you ovulate..... for me i will be put on metoformin in a few weeks,, i don't have diabeties but my insulin was a bit high..... then in sept i will be put on clomid to get preg.
check out the metoformin and clomid boards,,, also the trying to concieve board as these women are going though this.....
as for the insurance i am no help,, i am in canada and we have pretty much eveything covered,,, can you call the hospital and ask? or if you have a medical plan call them....
Mya and Lovely, thank you SO much for taking the time to reply to my post!
I am overweight, I had skin tags, depression, irregular periods....my previous GYN did blood tests and did an ultrasound. She also did a biopsy to test for cancer which came back negative, and yup, I'm on the pill to regulate my period. When I was last tested, she told me that my insulin is fine. I just don't remember the details of the previous tests I've had done or even what tests were done for sure, like when they took blood, what were they testing for and that kind of thing. it was 2 years ago, so I don't remember it all. I'm wondering if that's going to hurt me in the end. They should have it all in my records, I just feel like I don't KNOW enough. I guess I'm feeling more overwhelmed than I thought.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I definately appreciate it!
